Whoever thought of placing a loud horn in a car. They don't sound nice
either. By contrast, a bicycle bell is pleasant --ring ring-- or
musical like wind chimes dancing in the wind. Sometimes it goes "ding
dong," announcing that someone of great importance --such as my royal
self-- is coming through. Never do pedestrians feel threatened by
these gentle sounds. Now, placing an idiot in a car with a horn is
invitation to dissonance and chaos. Yesterday, I stopped on a dime
when the light turned green for cars, and before I knew it this idiot
was blasting the horn at me --not a toot-- but a disgusting long honk.
I went, "YES SIR!" --it was a lady-- and gave the military salute with
plenty of fanfare. Yes, sometimes you must make fun of an idiot with a
horn.

NOTE: A HONK IS AN ACT OF BELLIGERENCE. A TOOT CAN BE ABUSIVE. WE
DON'T NEED MORE 'NOISE POLLUTION.'

I know a lot of cyclists swear by these babies.

You would have to take a bell AND a horn like that. That would give a
heart attack to some pedestrians.

This is a noisy machine:

It's a great deal of freedom you enjoy on the roads nowadays. You can
blow a train horn from your SUV so everybody knows the KING is
around.

And all we got is a wimpy bell.

I have one of those and it is very effective. Be careful though since
it can scare the crap out of people walking along, which is usually
not the intention. It does penetrate earbuds.

Give a horn to an idiot and he'll blow the horn

I only use it on idiot drivers though.
It works a treat :-)

There is a lady in the next town who gives a 10--15 second blast of her
car's horn practically every time she is behind me---whether it's on a
single/ dual carriageway, roundabout, stopped at red traffic lights or,
most recently, using the `straight ahead' lane to go straight ahead.

But the horn on her car is pretty weak (worn out?) and harmonious, so
it's no real bother. I'd prefer it if she didn't stare at my bottom the
whole time, though :-). It's probably not the best of examples to set
the ever-present children in her car's passenger seats, either...

Probably just thinks you are a twat, that's all.

Probably difficult not to. You appear to be a complete arse most of the
time.

I would not hear it anyway above the music of my headphones if it was
that weak a horn.
Normal strength ones I can hear well enough.
