Blackmoon "How Many Emcee's Must Get Dissed" b/w "Act Like You Want It"
"How Many Emcee's..." uses the KRS-One sample from, "My Philosophy." It has
the same feel as, "Who Got The Props," IMO, but it doesn't sound like the same
song. There is a improvement from their last single to this one, and I think
it will grow on me the more I listen to it. But, once again, as with their
first single, I enjoyed the B-Side better. "Act Like You Want It," comes out
kind of smooth and reminds me of what I consider hip hop's best era,
commercially ('87-'89), when the tracks weren't overdone and people rhymed, not
screamed, coherently over over the tracks. It has a feel similar to Puba &
Kid Capri's, "Back It Up," but it has more energy. (NOTE: I use the word
'feel,' so if you didn't like Puba's album doesn't mean you won't like this
song; they are completely different songs).
Superlover Cee & Casanova Rud "Blow Up The Spot" EP
I liked Superlover Cee & Casanova Rud from back to, "Girls I Got 'Em Locked,"
and enjoyed their last single, "Romeo." So, I looked forward to getting this
EP, but on wax, not CD. I really hate buying EPs on CD. Well, I found it on
wax, and after listening to it, I liked it. They've changed a bit, but not so
radically where you wouldn't know who it was playing. Superlover Cee plays
around with some different styles (like Pos K did on his album as compared to
his single, IMO) and Casanova Rud can stilll hook up a track and he didn't
hurt himself on the mic either. I haven't listened to side 2 as much as I'd
like too, but the whole EP stands up. The song that sticks out for me is,
"Life Of The Party." The track is mellow and Supe comes off lyrically like the
Supe of old. The only problem I noticed is that on the wax version, some of
the cuts are radio versions, meaning they are censored, while other tracks are
uncensored. Why bother censoring some songs and not the others? Just leave
'em all uncensored. It's silly. I did not see and 'radio versions' written on
the CD version though. Anyone out there with this on CD that can tell me if
any songs are censored or not?
