Here's a capstan - actually it's four of them at the place - used to pull
wagons from a minor marshalling yard to a indistrual track:

I presume the transports used to be managed by horses - or perhaps
tractors - the last couples of hundred yards since the small industries -
a local electricity board and a brewery - hardly had a switching engine
of their self.
