Post in text, please.

Never try to teach a pig to dance.
It wastes your time and annoys the pig.
I'm confused. Apparently someone objected to the poster using HTML (??) and
asked for the post to be repeated in text. But the before and after posts
looked identical to me. No HTML characters.
So what was the problem?

I don't know whether the original post was in HTML or not. The post showed up
as ATT00001.ATT. My news reader (I do _not_ use a browser for reading NGs)
treats an HTML post, and some multi-part posts, and some parts of multi-part
posts, as attachments. "In-line" attachments are usually, but not always
excised and shown as attachments -- sometimes I see text followed by the
attachment code in ASCII. Some XTML and pretty well all Javascript posts are
treated as pure text - I see a mishmash of code and message. Basically, this
newsreader opens only text, or opens posts only _in_ text. Never executes
anything. Doesn't open a binary unless told to explicitly, via a menu. So I
really don't know what the post was - I didn't look at it. :-)
Why do I use this newsreader? So I can decide what to open, and what not to
open, and how. Safer that way.
You will note that this is _not_ a Windows machine. Why? Safer that way.

Thanks, Dominic Pinto.
No sweat. I'm afraid I won't be able to get to either - 'cept I might
possibly be Stateside late september / early October. If any further
details come to hand, please post them. Might be worth a side trip.
