AL GORE’S LYIN’ AND CRYIN’ TOUR

Actually, Gore calls it his "Progress and Prosperity" tour.
Reason? Because his
pollsters and focus groups have told him that if he goes out
there and claims credit
for our economic prosperity --- there are a substantial number of
idiots with voter
registration cards who will believe him. How do you think that
cretin Bill Clinton got
reelected four years ago?

Part of the focus group tested rhetoric on the Lyin’ and Cryin’
tour is this line
about the evil, rich Republicans:

"They were so determined to slash it [Medicare] that they shut
down the
government. But the American people shut them down – and we’re
never going to
let them do that again."

OK .. time for the High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth
to step in here.
Let’s pick Gore’s little sound-bite apart .... it’s really very
easy to do. Mere child’s
play.

"They were so determined to slash [Medicare] ......

This was a big-time favorite of the Clinton-Gore administration
during the 1996
campaign. The evil Republicans wanted to slash/gut/cut spending
on Medicare.
So, what’s the truth? The Republican Medicare reform proposal
actually provided
for continued spending increases on Medicare at twice the annual
rate of inflation!
Yearly spending increases of approximately 7 ½ percent! Please
--- would
someone help me understand how INCREASING spending on Medicare by
more
than TWICE the rate of inflation can be termed a spending CUT?
Or, as Gore calls
it, a "slash." Gore knows full well that the Republicans weren’t
proposing a
Medicare spending cut ... he also knows full well that the
average idiot-with-a-vote
won’t take so much as three seconds to seek the truth. Gore said
it ... it must be
true ... no matter how big a lie it is.

Now .... the second half of that sentence. "..... that they shut
down the
government."

This is one Clintonista lie that the press continues to embrace
wholeheartedly.
Actually, just one of many. First of all, the government was
never shut down.
Some functions of government halted --- but the government went
right on
cranking along. But who was it who actually caused those few
government
departments to send workers home? Clinton or the Republicans?
Here are the
facts --- presented in a clear and concise manner – read,
comprehend, and you’ll
understand what really happened.

First --- why did those few departments shut down? Because their
budget had run
out. No money had been appropriated for them to continue
operating.

Both the Republican Congress and the president had a role in
budgeting money
for the operation of these departments. The Congress passed the
budget –
appropriates the money --- and the president signs the
appropriations bills.

So, what happened? Well, the Congress did its job. It passed the
appropriations
bills and sent them to the president. The Republican Congress
fulfilled its complete
constitutional responsibility. It appropriated the money and
passed the budget.
The ball was then in Clinton’s court.

Clinton didn’t like the Republican budget. The Republicans
weren’t spending
enough money. Clinton wanted various spending increases and
refused to sign
the appropriations bills into law if those spending increases
weren’t there. So ...
Clinton vetoed the budget bill.

So --- who DIDN’T do what had to be done to get the money flowing
to these
government departments? Congress? Nope, the Congress passed the
budget.
The money was there. Clinton? You got it. Clinton didn’t like the
bill. It didn’t
contain his spending increases ... so he vetoed it. Clinton, not
the Congress, cut
off the flow of money to these government departments. Bottom
line .... Clinton
"shut down the government," not the Republicans.

Wait --- there’s more! The Republicans knew that Clinton had
problems with some
of the appropriations – he wanted more spending! So the
Republicans offered to
send something called a "continuing resolution" to Clinton for
his signature. This
resolution would provide for all government agencies and
departments to continue
being funded at their current levels until Clinton and the
Republicans ironed out
their budget differences. It’s been done time and time again. But
this time Clinton
said NO. He said he would not sign a continuing resolution! So,
Clinton had TWO
chances to make sure the government continued operating. One, he
could sign
the budget. Two, he could sign the continuing resolution and work
out his budget
problems with the Republicans. He refused to do either, and these
government
branches sent their workers home. Clinton immediately blamed it
on the
Republicans and the press eagerly went along with his lie. As a
result --- to this
day the majority of idiots-with-votes think that it was the
Republicans, not Clinton,
who shut down the government (as they say).

Wait! There’s more!

Several months after the budget fight and the so-called
government shut down
was over some memos were uncovered that revealed something rather
astonishing. It seems that there were some meetings between White
House
officials and the leaders of the largest government worker unions
before the whole
shut-down thing happened. According to various news reports the
White House
operatives were there to ask for union cooperation. The
conversation in that room
went something like this ---- with the White House hack speaking:
"Look, Mr.
Union Boss. Here’s what we’re going to do. The president is going
to refuse to
sign the Republican budget, and he’s going to refuse to sign a
continuing
resolution. We’re going to send thousands of federal workers home
for a few days
or weeks. Now, we both know that as soon as the Republicans cave
in and the
president signs a budget all of your workers are going to get
their full back pay
that they missed .... so there’s really no problem. But here’s
what the White
House wants you to do. We want your union members out there in
front of the
network news cameras complaining about how tough it is without a
paycheck. We
need some government workers on the network news worrying about
how they’re
going to make their mortgage payments, how they’re going to pay
medical bills,
and how they’re going to get Christmas presents for their kids.
And they need to
blame it on the Republicans. The press will eat it up. They want
the Republicans to
lose here as much as we do. You get your people to do their bit,
the president will
do his, and we’ll make sure the Republicans can’t make any
spending cuts that
might cost government jobs."

So --- there’s the TRUE story. Two huge Gore lies in one simple
sentence ...
easily refuted.
