Furthermore, their lies need to be corrected, fiscal responsibility
and health care reform are not in any way a contradiction, they are,
in fact, one and the same.
One of the things wrecking our economy is that we have an aging
population, living longer, and with increasingly complex health
problems, couple that with the fact that there are not enough young
people being born to support the old. As a result, health care
spending has been rising much faster than revenue, this has aggravated
the debt crisis we now have. An increase in the population of senior
citizens coupled with an increase in the population of the young who
are un-insured, this is the main contributor to the rising cost of
Social Security, and rising cost of Medicare and Medicaid and so on.
This is the main cause of the horrible fiscal catastrophe we are
witnessing, as health care costs continue to rise non-stop.
There's only one way to solve this problem here, by doing the right
thing, extend coverage to all the un-insured, most of whom, by the
way, are relatively young and healthy, so it will not really cost that
much to extend coverage to all of them.
The proposed health care reforms, as the Democrats envision it, is to
expand health care and link it with some real cost control measures
for Medicare. This is a very good deal, if you think about it, expand
coverage for everyone, but at the same time provide a firm guarantee
that our health care dollars are not wasted. This is the best way to
control health care costs for all Americans, by giving all Americans
the security of guaranteed health care. As Paul Krugman put it, the
path to cost control runs thru universality.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office have themselves admitted
that the proposed health care reforms will ultimately REDUCE, and not
increase, Medicare spending, and it will thus reduce the budget
deficit. Forget what you've heard on FOX or what you've heard on the
AM hate radio band, or from any Republicans, THIS is the real
definition fiscal responsibility, health care reform.
It was the Republicans, and Reagan in particular, who demonized
Medicare, calling it "tyrannical" and "socialized medicine" and all
that. If the Republicans had their way, Medicare would not exist. So
don't believe them when they say that they are opposing health care
reform because they think health care reform will damage Medicare.
Republicans don't care about Medicare. They never did. But worse, they
don't care about the truth, they never did.

I seem to remember the 'opposition' Democrats voting for every single
goddamn tax cut and war spending bill the Republicans proposed, not to
mention the trillion-dollar financial bailout they rubberstamped
without debate.
The Democrat party could demonstrate its fiscal responsibility by
balancing the budget, instead of just adding more trillions of dollars
to the national debt. But a balanced budget would mean either raising
taxes or cutting spending, both of which are politically unviable
options.
The other alternative is to print money to pay for the spending, which
devalues the dollar and causes inflation, but is politically popular
because people believe they are getting 'free' money. To illustrate
this idea, write "Obama Crack" on a bag of bread crumbs and find some
ducks to feed: All the ducks start quacking for Obama Crack and will
follow you as long as you keep tossing free crack at them.
