I feel a lot more safe just knowing how The National Enquirer dogged
John Edwards. It must be comforting to Elizabeth Edwards to see the
way this is unfolding. This matter was in question in Santa Barbara,
at least since Richard Mineards at the Santa Barbara Enquirer [former
Santa Barbara News-Press] mentioned a candidate scandal to derail a
contender. John Edwards is the rat! Not for being a typical power
player, for making so many sad and mad! I doubt this is total news to
Elizabeth Edwards. It is a political story, but he's not a contender
now. It is mostly a personal story. Time must be precious to Elizabeth
and it would be nice for all to consider that, regardless of her
husbands mistakes. There is a child who will grow up and have access
to public opinion of her mother, possibly father. Many politicians are
caught in unsavory situations and continue to serve in office. He is
not a serving public servant. Strom Thurmond had a long life of
deceit. Who cares about his years of lies? Why do these alpha males do
these things? Traditionally, it was easier to get by with a secret
life.
The National Enquirer and other rags, websites and bloggers do get it
right sometimes...

Don't tell the very secret Laura Schlessinger, who bashed the National
Enquirer [and the highly credible Salt Lake Tribune] on CNN earlier
this year. Yes, their are those who view the National Enquirer as a
liberal, left wing, commie publication to be "eliminated".
Others might consider it was the first known target and victim of the
2001 Anthrax Attacks. After the Twin Towers 9/11 attack it was a
National Enquirer employee that was the first known to die. In 2001 we
were led to believe the deadly attacks could be linked to the WTC
attacks. Even Senator John McCain pimped the Anthrax Attacks with an
Iraq link. October 18, 2001, the David Letterman show

DAVID LETTERMAN: How are things going in Afghanistan now?
SEN. JOHN McCAIN: I think we’re doing fine. I think we’ve
removed what little anti-aircraft capability they have. These C-130
gunships are pretty awesome weapons of war, and I believe that the
Taliban will be removed. I think we’ll do fine. The second phase—if I
could just make one very quickly—the second phase is Iraq. There is
some indication, and I don’t have the conclusions, but some of this
anthrax may—and I emphasize “may”—have come in from—come from Iraq.
Letterman asked about forgotten Afghanistan, McCain answers Iraq,
anthrax. [subtext: be very affraid America]
The National Enquirer and others were being "attacked by Iraq".
Curiouser and curiouser...

Fires rage in Baghdad as U.S.-led coaltion forces attack the city
Open quoteThe people of the United States and our friends and allies
will not live at the mercy of an outlaw regime that threatens the
peace with weapons of mass murder. We will meet that threat now, with
our Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines, so that we do not
have to meet it later with armies of fire fighters and police and
doctors on the streets of our cities. Close quote

Santa Barbara connections

"Yet, there was the News-Press dipping its big toe into the pool of
sensationalistic journalism.
Apparently the only "investigation" Steepleton undertook was to obtain
a copy of the birth certificate in question showing that no father was
named on the document.
I have no idea if the allegation is true but I do have a couple of
questions.
Shouldn't you have some facts that have been corroborated before you
repeat something that was in the Enquirer?
And I wonder whether Edwards' stance as an advocate for unions and
working people had anything to do with the News-Press running this
story?
By the way, the article on Friday was not the first allusion in the
News-Press to the purported Edwards scandal.
Earlier this year the paper's gossip columnist Richard Mineards ran a
"blind item" alleging that one of the presidential candidates was
seeing a woman who lived in Santa Barbara.
Maybe Wendy will be changing the name of her operation to the "Santa
Barbara Enquirer?""

"consistently portray the News-Press in a negative light."

Santa Barbara News-Press Controversy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Barbara_News-Press_controversy
"The paper [SBNP] announced the hiring of controversial, conservative
radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger to replace local columnist
Brantingham in late July. Schlessinger went on a "sabbatical" in
January, 2007, after writing her twice-weekly column for less than six
months. Her column resumed on March 11, 2007. Many of her columns were
supportive of management's position on the controversy and anti-union.
Dr. Laura's column was suspended again on May 20, 2007, perhaps
because of concerns about the content of her son's MySpace page, but
returned two weeks later on June 3, 2007.The U.S. Military is
investigating the MySpace webpage, and some have suggested that the
webpage was a forgery."
