a vote which was supported by a large number of Republicans. McCain
claimed this week that he was largely unaware on the importance of
King's work at the time, due to his Vietnam-era service overseas.

began to learn and I studied and people talked to me. And I not only
supported it but I fought very hard in my home state of Arizona for

(which he later supported) and a federal holiday in 1989, McCain voted

When King was shot on a motel balcony in 1968, Jackson — then one of

standing in the courtyard below. In a chilling account, Landess and
Quinn describe how Jackson immediately fabricated a tale to make
himself heir apparent to the fallen martyr.
Within half an hour of the shooting, he was issuing orders to other
witnesses not to talk to reporters, then racing to grab the media
spotlight himself. "I came out [of a hotel room] to hear what was
being said [to reporters]," said SCLC aide Hosea Williams, "then I
heard Jesse say, ‘Yes, I was the last man in the world King spoke to.’
I knew Jesse was lying … and I had a feeling about what Jesse was

By the next day Jackson was appearing in front of network cameras with
bloodstains on his shirt, claiming he got them while cradling the
dying martyr in his arms. In fact, Jackson never touched King, as
numerous witnesses cited by Landess and Quinn — including King aides —
report, and as a news photo taken moments after the shooting confirms.
Nevertheless, Time and other media outlets took Jackson at his word,
and a myth was born.

makes empty claims:
"When you're the mother of somebody in the military, you're the

It takes a certain kind of mother to rally for your children to go
into a war that is shortchanged. And why? For the "1,000 year" mistake
war that no one can discuss the costs. (Buy real estate in places like

left a green zone, like Kandahar base,

If you're a sniper, unlike Ciara Durkin or Juan Torres (Bagram),
you're in safe hands on a fortified base. On these bases it is as
western as possible. Electronics, games, shop... trips home or
wherever for some. The worst problems can come from boredom. Derky's
bros did go on many difficult missions after his hiding away. They are
capable, courageous and they followed orders.

deployed, or they will return to the states. Stop-loss will not effect
