newbie seeks advice on how to use his new scanner, a ALINCO DJ-X30E

hi folks

I'm a disabled person and decided to add to whatever interests are open to me by buying a short-wave scanner, to see if there were enough transmissions "out there" to hold my interest for a while at least.

I didn't expect it to be easy, but I did naively assume that any reasonably intelligent user would (if he
pushed enough buttons)} be bound to pick up a few transmissions here and there. Nope.. nada.. 3 days after making my magnificent purchase I'm still a scanning virgin! So far, I've managed to pick up a few FM radio stations, but not a single short-wave broadcast of any description. Where IS everybody?

To start at the beginning.. when I switch my scanner on, the display reads: EGr CLONE. I thought maybe
if I removed the batteries for a few minutes that it might revert to a default setting, but no dice. Gave it
a whole day's rest in the hope that it would mend itself by some kind of magic perhaps, much like the
older versions of Windows used to do, but still no luck. I can't even try the factory reset, because this
message always gets there first LOL

If any of you folks have the time and patience to walk me through this most stressful period of my life,
then I'd be truly grateful for any advice from any quarter ;-)

Try asking on uk.radio.amateur, this NG is dead
But be prepared for Trolls as well as knowledgeable types
