Are there any pirate shortwave transmitters that could be
modified to work on the CB bands. I know that newer SW
receivers can go all the way to 30MHz, and I would like to
expand my internet station to international shortwave, by
broadcasting somehwere in the CB band.
With a couple hundered watts of power I could reach an
international audience.
Not sure about any shortwave transmitters available but here is a few
other alternatives.
The Yaesu FT 747 gx is a HF Ham rig but by using the keypad you can
get it to transmit on 11 meters (CB) this radio can often be found on
Ebay. It will also transmit in the AM Broadcast Band but may require
some work on a proper antenna.
If you try the FT -747 especially if you get one from ebay, be sure
the battery for memory backup is charged otherwise you will not be
able to access 11 meters from the keypad.
Under part 15 fcc rules you are allowed to experiment with cb channels
but power is limited so the way to go is with a transmitter made to
broadcast continuously. Most cb radios wont hold up that long without
some kind of bias mods and a good computer fan keeping it cool. I know
a few people have used cb radios to broadcast but they had to leave
the cover off the radio and placed a fan on it.
Hope this helps
