the leadership of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to advance the
presence of the public broadcaster in the region, one third of
technicians in Matane, Rimouski and Sept-Îles learned this morning
they had no jobs.

"The management of Radio-Canada seems more interested in cuts by his
first mission as a public broadcaster. We have not seen any concrete
plan for the future from management. How will they produce and air
emissions without competent employees "asks Michel Labrie, Vice-
President of the Union technician (ne) s and craftsman (s) of the
French network of the CBC (Starc).

"It's not even been a year since the Rimouski station is in use, and
they are relocating the station Matane. How can they talk about
recovery of regional stations when they do not even give a chance for

In 2010, the president of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC),
Hubert T. Lacroix launched its five-year strategic plan titled "2015:
everywhere, for everyone." The project announced a recovery and a
resurgence of the public broadcaster in regions far from major
centers. The mid-term review: the CBC has failed to achieve its
objective with regard to the population in the region.

"I fear that these stations become empty shells, thank you to the
parent company," lamented Michel Labrie.

The Union technician (ne) s and craftsman (s) of the French network of
the CBC (Starc) represent workers in the public broadcaster throughout
Quebec and Moncton. STARF is a partner of the Canadian Union of Public
Employees (CUPE), which also represents office workers and
professionals to the CBC.

direction de la Société Radio-Canada de faire progresser la présence
du diffuseur public en région, un tiers des techniciens à Matane,
Rimouski et Sept-Îles ont appris ce matin qu'ils n'avaient plus
d'emploi.

« La direction de Radio-Canada semble plus intéressée par des coupures
que par sa mission première de diffuseur public. Nous n'avons pas vu
de plan concret pour l'avenir provenant de la direction. Comment
feront-ils pour produire et mettre en ondes les émissions sans
employés compétents », se demande Michel Labrie, vice-président du
Syndicat des technicien(ne)s et artisan(e)s du réseau français de
Radio-Canada (STARF).

« Ça ne fait même pas un an que la station de Rimouski est en service,
et ils sont à relocaliser la station de Matane. Comment peuvent-ils
parler de valorisation des stations en région quand ils ne donnent
même pas la chance aux coureurs? »

En 2010, le président de la Société Radio-Canada (SRC), Hubert T.
Lacroix, a lancé son plan stratégique quinquennal titré « 2015 :
partout, pour tous ». Le projet annonçait une valorisation et un
retour en force du diffuseur public dans les régions éloignées des
grands centres. Le bilan de mi-parcours : la Société Radio-Canada n'a
pas su réaliser son objectif à l'égard de la population en région.

« Je crains que ces stations ne deviennent des coquilles vides, à la
merci de la maison mère », a déploré Michel Labrie.

Le Syndicat des technicien(ne)s et artisan(e)s du réseau français de
Radio-Canada (STARF) représentent des travailleurs du diffuseur public
dans tout le Québec et Moncton. Le STARF est partenaire du Syndicat
canadien de la fonction publique (SCFP), qui représente aussi les
employés de bureau et les professionnels à la SRC.
