HOTSHEET FOR THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2009

-- RADIO ONE --

1. THE CURRENT:

Today on The Current…while Canada's jobless rate is falling, a recent
CIBC study finds that the numbers don't give the full picture.
Benjamin Tal - the bank's senior economist and author of the report -
joins host Anna Maria Tremonti to talk about how the quality of jobs
is still lagging.  He'll also discuss why many people are settling for
part-time positions, self-employment or jobs that don't pay as much.

A look at the erosion of job quality in Canada on The Current, with
host Anna Maria Tremonti, today at 8:30 a.m. (9 NT) on CBC Radio One.

2. Q:

Jian Ghomeshi returns to the host chair today on Q…for an interview
with longtime reporter Helen Thomas.  At age 89, she's the longest
serving White House correspondent - and she's showing no signs of
slowing down. Thomas will be on the show to talk about her recent
warning to the Obama administration over its rejection of Fox News.
She'll also discuss the power and perils of political reporting in the
age of 24-7 cable coverage.

Veteran journalist Helen Thomas in conversation with host Jian
Ghomeshi on Q...today at 10:00 a.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

3. DISPATCHES:

This week, Dispatches marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the
Berlin Wall with a look at how Germany has changed since the end of
the Cold War divide.   In journalist Alexa Dvorson's documentary The
Wall of Ignorance… she finds that high school students in Eastern
Germany learn almost nothing about the communist reality their parents
grew up in - much to the amazement of teenagers in the western part of
the country. Then, Brandenburg, Germany's teacher-turned-education
minister Holger Ruprecht explains how he tries to get kids thinking
more about the nation's past…and why some educators have a hard time
broaching the subject.

Exploring the collapse of the Berlin Wall - and its impact on Germany
today…on Dispatches, with host Rick Macinnes-Rae, today at 1:00 p.m.
(1:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

4. REWIND:

Today on Rewind…the origins and legacy of employment insurance. In
1945 - not long before the end of the Second World War - a group of
men and women gathered on CBC Radio to discuss what social security
might look like. On today's program, they share their hopes and
concerns for a system that provides financial support for the
unemployed.

A look at the early days of Canada's employment insurance plan on
Rewind…bringing you the best from the CBC Radio archives…today at 2:00
p.m. (2:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

5. IDEAS:

This evening on IDEAS…award-winning anthropologist, filmmaker and
author Wade Davis continues the 2009 CBC Massey Lectures.  He'll take
listeners to the southern Andes to discover the spiritual connection
that local farming communities have with their surroundings and the
souls of their ancestors.   There, the land is considered alive…and
the mountains are mystical creatures that bestow gifts to the earth.
Tonight, Davis also explores how the region celebrates society-based
rituals of commitment and engagement on a grand scale.

Wade Davis navigates through the sacred geography of South America…as
part of The 2009 CBC Massey Lectures. That's on IDEAS with host Paul
Kennedy… tonight at 9:00 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

6. CANADA LIVE:

As a platinum-selling artist, Winnipeg native Chantal Kreviazuk has
become one of Canada's top musical artists. In October - to the
delight of critics and fans - the Juno winner released her fifth
studio album called Plain Jane. Tonight on Canada Live, Kreviazuk
performs songs from that new release in an intimate outdoor concert at
the Jackson-Triggs Estate Amphitheatre in Niagara-On-The-Lake,
Ontario.  Joining her for this sold-out show are Kevin Fox on cello
and guitar…and Karen Graves on violin.

A magical performance by Chantal Kreviazuk and friends on Canada Live,
tonight at 7:00 p.m. (7:30 NT) on CBC Radio 2.
