1. THE CURRENT:


Today on The Current…This week's demonstrations in Iran have shown
that the opposition "Green Movement" is gaining political strength.
But Ayatollah Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard aren't
giving up power without a fight. We'll assess the strength of each
side and look at where the battle is heading. That’s on The Current

2. Q:

This morning on Q…wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan joins host Jian
Ghomeshi for a revealing and candid interview. With his 24-inch
bulging biceps, blonde hair and handlebar moustache…Hogan is one of
the world's most recognizable celebrities. But his new memoir My Life
Outside the Ring reveals the private side of the champion wrestler and
TV personality. On today’s program, Hogan talks about that memoir…and
what it was like to share stories about his childhood, his wrestling
career, and steroid abuse. He’ll also discuss the past two years…a
period that he describes as "the most difficult match of his life."
Hulk Hogan opens up about his life and career on Q with host Jian
Ghomeshi today at 10:00 a.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

3. DISPATCHES:

This week on Dispatches…CBC's Anthony Germain met with some of China's
Christian leaders and believers, who continue to struggle in a
country that doesn't target the church as much as is used to. But it
still can be nasty to outspoken critics.

And Canadian writer Joan Baxter talks about her 30 years living in
Africa and reads from her book, Dust From Our Eyes, an on-the-ground
account of the legacy of western aid on the continent. That’s coming
up on Dispatches, with host Rick Macinnes-Rae...today at 1:00 p.m. on
CBC Radio One.


4. REWIND:

Today on Rewind… a Christmas Eve lecture about non-violence from
American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. It first aired in
1967 -- just months before King was assassinated. That’s a special
Christmas Eve message from Martin Luther King Jr. coming up on
Rewind...bringing you the best from the CBC Radio archives. Today at

5. AS IT HAPPENS/THE SHEPHERD

The holiday season just wouldn’t be the same without Alan Maitland's
reading of “The Shepherd” – and longstanding CBC Radio tradition.
Generations of listeners have tuned in to hear Frederick Forsyth's
tale of an RAF pilot, who, on Christmas Eve, struggles on his flight
home over the North Sea. So gather with friends and family for
Maitland’s special reading of “The Shepherd” on As it Happens, tonight
at 6:30 pm (7:00 NT) on CBC Radio One.
6. IDEAS:

This evening IDEAS prepares for a special CBC Radio presentation of
Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol in Nain, Labrador. Join host Paul
Kennedy and the local cast as they rehearse…and rediscover the
enduring power of this seasonal classic. It’s A Christmas Carol in
Labrador on IDEAS with host Paul Kennedy, this evening at 9:00 p.m.

4. A QUARTETTE CHRISTMAS

The group Quartette is made up of four of Canada's finest singer/
songwriters ... Sylvia Tyson, Cindy Church, Caitlin Hanford and Gwen
Swick. Their rich harmonies, good humour and love for the music
guarantees a concert to remember. This Christmas concert combines old
favourites and new collaborations between the members with musical
influences ranging from jazz, blues, country, gospel and pop. That’s
on Radio One at 10:00 p.m. (10:30 NT).


5. ELEKTRA - CHEZ NOUS!

Canadians have a variety of traditions at this time of year, and the
most common one – entertaining. Whether its family, friends or
coworkers…we invite people into our homes for the holiday season. For
years, Elektra Women's Choir has espoused that tradition --
metaphorically speaking -- with their annual Chez Nous! concerts.
It’s an Open House that shines with a smorgasbord of melodies heard
around the Christmas season. This year, they’re joined by musical
friends including the Zing! Children's Choir, guitarist and composer
Edward Henderson, bassist Jodi Proznick, and pianists Bramwell Tovey
and Ya Wen Wang. Also on this festive bill are pianist, organist and
composer Stephen Smith with conductors Morna Edmundson and Lisa
Reimer. Listen for world premieres by Tim Corlis and Edward Henderson
