1. A KING’S CHRISTMAS:

This Christmas night, join Halifax's own five-time Grammy award winner
Paul Halley for “A King’s Christmas,” with the King's College Chapel
Choir and soprano Suzie Leblanc. It’s the second year that the The
King’s College Chapel Choir has presented what the Halifax Chronicle
Herald is calling “an unquestionable tradition-maker.” You'll hear
Paul Halley's arrangements of carols old and new - a few sung with
audience participation! It's a seasonal feast of some of the most
loved carols, hymns and motets written over the past 500 years…
performed at All Saints Cathedral in Halifax. Tune in for A King’s

2. THE CANADIAN CHRISTMAS CANON:

Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith, Lynn Miles, Stan Rogers,
and many others have penned songs expressing their personal sense of
the Christmas season. For many, these are the songs of The Canadian
Christmas Canon. Alberta singer-songwriter Bob Jahrig and sisters
group The Ambers perform some of their favourites for one magical
night at the intimate Northern Light Folk Club in Edmonton. It’s the
Canadian Christmas Canon…this evening at 10:00 p.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC
Radio One.

3. HANDEL’S MESSIAH FROM CARNEGIE HALL:

This year, CBC's annual Christmas Day broadcast of Handel's Messiah
comes from New York City’s legendary Carnegie Hall. Featuring the
Quebec City chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy and the 32 voices of
La Chapelle de Quebec…the performance is under the direction of
conductor Bernard Labadie. They're joined by an international quartet
of soloists for an unforgettable performance of this holiday
favourite. It’s sure to be a high point of your Christmas
celebrations. Enjoy Handel’s Messiah from Carnegie Hall, today at
9:00 a.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and at 12noon (12:30 NT) on CBC
Radio 2.


4. 2009 CBC Christmas Sing-In:

A kaleidescope of festive music swirls before an audience of 1500 in
this year’s 2009 CBC Christmas Sing-In. Now in it’s 30th year, this
magical tradition comes from The Church of St Andrew and St Paul in
Montreal. The celebration features the Choir of The Church of St.
Andrew and St. Paul, organist Jonathan Oldengram and a brass ensemble
led by Jean-Michel Malouf - all under the direction of Jordan de Souza
and quest conductor Wayne Riddell, the founding conductor of the Sing-
In. Also featured is the world premiere premiere of Peaceful, the
Wondrous Night…by Toronto composer Ruth Watson Henderson. Make the
2009 CBC Christmas Sing-In a part of your holiday season…today at 9:00
a.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC Radio Two and at 12noon (12:30 NT) on CBC Radio
One.


5. RADIO ONE FESTIVAL ON ICE: RADIO 2 FESTIVAL ON ICE:

Can you imagine a Canadian winter without the excitement of steel
blades kissing a smooth, frozen sheet of pure H20? No? Well, neither
can Paolo Pietropaolo, host of the CBC Radio Festival on Ice [or Radio
2 Festival on Ice]. Join him for an hour of ice-skating music and fun
facts about one of Canada's favourite winter pursuits. You'll hear
Kurt Browning, Katia Gordeeva, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, and
others reveal what music THEY love to skate to. Also on the program,
Andrea Menard and the Canadian Tenors in concert at Abbotsford B.C.’s
Entertainment and Sports Centre rink. Lace up and tune in to the

6. MIR SYMPHONY NOVA SCOTIA:

At 3:00 CBC presents a wonderful Christmas concert by this
sophisticated pop group. In this concert they combine forces with
Symphony Nova Scotia in a series of compositions and arrangements by
the band's leader Asif Illyas and his brother Shehab. Their songs are
catchy, sweet, sad, simple and complex -- but always fresh and
interesting. This concert traces the thoughts, feelings, and travels
of a soldier a long way from home at Christmas. That’s at 3:00 (3:30
NT) p.m. on CBC Radio One.


7. TOM JACKSON’S SINGING FOR SUPPER:

2009 marks the 6th year that singer and actor Tom Jackson has toured
the country with his Christmas show “Singing for Supper". To
celebrate the holiday season, he’ll perform his signature tune The
Huron Carole along with other traditional and non-traditional holiday
favourites. This time around…guest musicians Shannon Gaye and Pear
join Jackson on stage in special performance to support food banks and
food programs across Canada. It’s Tom Jackson’s Singing For Supper
today at 4:00 p.m. (4:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and 6:00 p.m. (6:30 NT)
on CBC Radio 2.

8. A STROUMBOULOPOULOS CHRISTMAS:

It's holiday time Canada…and The Hour’s George Stroumboulopoulos is
bringing you some of music's best artists performing classic Christmas
songs. Enjoy musical treats from Michael Bublé, Norah Jones, Blue
Rodeo and Kathleen Edwards. And rounding out this special bill are
festive tunes from Our Lady Peace, The Mighty Pope featuring The
Sadies and Metric. Plus, what would a Strombo Christmas be without a
little metal from Anvil? Don’t miss A Stroumboulopoulos Christmas…
today at 5:00 p.m. (5:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and tonight at 8:00 p.m.

9. CHRISTMAS DANCE:

Cut a rug, trip the light fantastic, terpsichorian frenzy - all
phrases aptly describing the celebratory aspect of dance. Thus
Christmas Dance celebrates music depicting the Christmas story. Lacing
up their dancing shoes are soprano Tracy Dahl, the Manitoba Chamber
Orchestra, and conductor Roy Goodman ready to interpret music of
Scarlatti, Finzi and Bridge. That’s on at 6:00 p.m. (6:30 NT) tonight
on CBC Radio One.


10. EBU JOY TO THE WORLD:

Join us for highlights from this year's European Broadcast Union Joy
to the World with choral music from across the globe, tonight at 7:00
