Today on The Current… host Anna Maria Tremonti talks to a panel of
three mayors from around the world who are attending the United
Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. They’ve each
introduced green initiatives in their municipalities that are
attracting a considerable amount of international recognition. Cities
are one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. And since
half of the world's population now lives in cities, they’ll play a
crucial role in addressing climate change. That’s on The Current with

2. Q:
Today on Q…Grammy Award winning artist Norah Jones visits Studio Q to
talk about her highly anticipated new album The Fall. Since the
release of her debut 2002 CD Come Away With Me, the 30-year-old New
York singer’s career has sky rocketed. Her success has earned her
numerous awards, 36 million in worldwide album sales, and a status as
one of the most popular female voices of the 2000s. Now, Jones is
back with a reflective new release. She’ll join host Jian Ghomeshi to
discuss the singer-songwriter emphasis of the album…and she’ll perform
from the disc. Norah Jones dazzles on Q…today at 10:00 a.m. (10:30
NT) on CBC Radio One.
3. THE NEXT CHAPTER:
This week on The Next Chapter…writer Tom King talks literature and
politics with host Shelagh Rogers. King is the author of The Dead Dog
Cafe Comedy Hour, Green Grass as well as Green Grass, Running Water
and many other brilliantly creative books. His latest work A Coyote
Solstice Tale takes an amusing look at holiday season from the
perspective of a little girl and her animal friends. King will be on
the program to discuss his new book and its main themes – Christmas
and consumerism. He’ll also talk about his experience running for a
federal seat in the last election. A special conversation with
Canadian writer – and politician Tom King -- on The Next Chapter with
host Shelagh Rogers… today at 1:00 p.m. (1:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.
4. IDEAS IN THE AFTERNOON:
Today on IDEAS in the Afternoon…broadcaster Chris Brookes continues to
explore European interest in the people and animals of the Canadian
North during the late 19th century. That fascination continues to this
day…from polar bears to the seal hunt. But in this episode, Brookes
looks back to 1880 when eight Inuit from northern Labrador traveled
across the Atlantic by ship to be put on display in European zoos. One
of them – Abraham Ulrikab – watched the watchers and kept a journal.
His chronicles are the focus of today’s show.
It’s the second – and final – installment of “Abraham’s Diary” on
IDEAS in the Afternoon with host Paul Kennedy, today at 2:00 p.m.

5. RADIO 2 DRIVE:
This afternoon on Radio 2 Drive…guest host Kelly Cutrara gives
listeners the chance to win a new album by one of the country’s rising
music stars. Up for grabs is the latest release by Atlantic Canadian
singer/songwriter Rose Cousins called The Send Off. Later on the
program, it’s Then & Now…featuring favourite artists in a two-song
set. It’s what they sounded like THEN, and what they sound like NOW.
This week puts the spotlight on East Coast rockers Sloan. Hear a gem
from 1994’s Twice Removed and one from 2008’s Parallel Play. Next,
the Radio 2 Musical Advent Calendar offers another sweet Christmas
track that will restore your faith in the power of seasonal music.

6. CANADA LIVE:
This evening on Canada Live… it’s a foot-stomping evening of Quebec
traditional music as De Temps Antan play before an impressive crowd at
Montreal’s Lion D’or. They’re an extraordinary trio featuring singers
and multi-instrumentalists Éric Beaudry, André Brunet and Pierre-Luc
Dupuis. And for this show, they've invited some special guests.
Joining them on stage are Juan Sebastian Larobina on guitar and flute,
Patrick Graham on percussion and Shuni Tsou on flute. Together, these
musicians offer a new take on Quebec folk music -- with their own
special touch. As part of the Mundo Montreal series, it’s a
celebration of traditional music with nothing old-fashioned about it!
