Just checking him out on amazon.com. You would have thought he would be around forever; he was a good writer and an able commentator on the American scene.
But only Travis McGee remains in print, and who knows for how much longer. Efforts to promote his stuff with a series of hardback-versions of old Gold Medal paperback went nowhere, as has a trade paperback effort.

Yet Hale in Great Britain published many of his titles in hardcover
(admittedly, in laughably small numbers, presumably for the library
trade).
