Just came across Dr. Hermes's scan of "Created: the Destroyer" --
nice to see it again. Reading a couple of the reviews of early
Destroyer books, I'll mention my theory about the series: somewhere
along the way during the first ten or so books, one of the partners
(Murphy and Sapir) looked at the other one and said, "you know, this
is really dumb." The other one answered, "yeah. Hmmm, you think we
can do something with that idea?" and they went on to produce a
brilliant parody for the next several dozen books.

I've always considered the Destroyer as being satire adventure and
that's what made it so unique.

THE DESTROYER was/is the only series to assume the readership had a
brain. this was a good move, because initially the series was about
lost the the series explosion of what were called the "ER" books (all
the nicknames ended with "ER") Some even thought the old Tom Swift
series woul dget a makeover and bring back Eradicate as THE
ERADICATER!

My favorite knock off was The Enunciator, especially the one titled
"Rain in Spain Kill Zone."
