advice please re number of books

Hi all,
I am new to this newsgroup and need some advice.
Can anyone advise where I can obtain information as to the number of books
needed to be printed to be kept when 5 volumes of a series is to be printed.
I am associated with a historical socieity that has printed 3 of 5 volumes -
the 4th to be printed March this year, the 5th in two years.
There are some members of the society who want to sell the stock of volumes
1 to 3, just to get rid of them, at garage sale prices. We had a few
thousand (I'm not sure of actual amount) of each volume printed to enable
people to buy all three and eventually to buy all five when we have
finished.
Any advice appreciated
