"Pfizer paid kickbacks to health care professionals to induce them to
promote and prescribe its medications. "

If Pfizer is doing it, what other companies is also doing the same? Do you
really need the pills the doctors are telling you to take if they are
getting kickbacks to do the recommendation? More greed from the pharma $$$.

Conversely, its why doctors dont know about the German Commission E
Monograph on herbs. Scores of scientific double blind studies proving
the effectiveness of some herbs. Or the Chinese government funded
studies of their herbs. Its instructive to consider the US govt has
extensively funded the study of just one herb: cannabis.

Which studies of smoking pot are now all obsolete with the introduction
of herbal vaporizers that deliver the therapeutic compounds, but there
is NO SMOKE.

Instructive also to think about how transnational pharma buys ads in
media which therefore say nothing of herbal alternatives that would save
the taxpayers tons of money in Medicare/Medicaide and drive down the
cost of healthcare for everyone else.

Never mind how much money lawyers make from defending pot users.

It would not be logically true to say EVERY doctor. It is just to point
out that people should question what is prescribed to them. Why is that
wrong?

Because you should be able to trust your doctor. If you suspect they are
duping you with un-needed treatment, you should get a second, third or
however many opinions you need to be satisfied.

I've personally had a doctor try to prescribe me antibiotics for a cold
that was not severe, all I wanted was a certificate so I would still be
paid for the day off. I went to another doctor and told him that the
last one tried to give me antibiotics, I asked him the risk in not
taking them and lots of other things.

The doctor agreed that antibiotics were un-needed in my specific case
and wrote me a certificate, he also educated me about the risks of
antibiotic resistant sickness.

This doctor is my regular doctor and I trust him very much, he only
writes a script for drugs if I need them. I agree that it always pays to
ask the doctor what is expected to be gained and what the risks are in a
certain treatment. Then to compare what the doc says to your own
research and at this point- if there is a big enough difference to worry
about, you tell your doctor. Explain to them why you are worried and
what you've read about it.

Not every doctor is evil, in fact most just want to help..

You have to allow people to help you before they can effectively provide
help..

I would not feel safe taking herbs, because of the uncertainty of the
dosage, the many chemicals in them, and the side effects. If an herb
is useful, it should be possible to make a drug out of it by refining
or synthesizing whatever is useful in it. So of course we should study
them, but not rely on them if possible.

I believe _evil_ is quite rare. But corruption can be pervasive, and
in many environments it may in fact be quite normal.

If Pfizer did something illegal, then I would assume they did a lot of
things that were legal, but questionable ethically.

You certainly see a lot of drug company trinkets around a clinic or
doctor's office. I thought it was standard, accepted practice to take
doctors to lunch to talk about why they should prescribe a drug. I'm
not sure if it's allowed in certain circumstances or not.

I'm sure 99% of doctors and pharma reps don't consciously do anything
they think is unethical or not being done by their peers.

If an herb is useful, as you say, it'd be nice to standardize, and this
has been done. But hominids themselves vary so that even the standard
pharmaceuticals have "uncertainty of the dosage, the many chemicals in
them, and the side effects." Doctors commonly try new dosage levels or
look for alternative drugs.

Moreover, since herbs cannot be patented, there's been no effort to
corrupt the system to get them distributed for the sake of profits.
Lastly, it is the doctors who should know about the variations you refer
to, but their attention is distracted by the profit driven methods of
the transnational pharmaceuticals.

That depends on your DNA. The grave at Shanidar, with 7 important
medicinal herbs, shows they've been in use by my ancestors for 52,000
years. If there were problems, we'd know them by now.

If you are Native American, there's another set that've been in use for
millennia, the same for East Asian, African, or whatever. But if you are
of mixed blood, then the recently developed pharmaceuticals would not be
any less reliable in your particular case.

But there are a few herbs, like Saw Palmetto & Stinging Nettle that
every man we know of over 40 should be taking to prevent prostate
enlargement and preserve sexual functionality. I'm 71, been doing that
for decades now, and still work just fine. I've never needed Viagra.

Which is a case in point, cause nobody knows the long term effects of
recently developed drugs. YMMV. Its your body; look into your own
ancestral heritage. Part of the reason European witches were so powerful
the church started burning them was, as indicated by the German studies,
is that they really did know something about health services. Where they
failed was with the introduction of new diseases: bubonic plague,
syphilis, & gonorrhea.
