I have a long term friend who can only speak of himself, and his own
achievements. It would be inconceivable for him to ask a simple question
about anyone's wellbeing but his own. or to even suspect that he has
anything but a normal personality He does not seem to form friendships
easily and as far as I know, has never had a relationship with a female. He
is quite intelligent. To me it is almost like he has some kind of social
autism. Does anyone know what this type of behaviour is called or where I
can find more information about it?

It is possible that INTJs may have the tendancy - more commonly than any
other type - to exhibit a mild Asperger's syndrome. Maybe as many as
10-20% of INTJs might be diagnosed with at least a mild AS, although I
have no precise information about this figure, a simple conjecture.
Could somebody confirm or infirm this ?

No, but it sometimes comes up on the INTP list. But read
Keiresey's Traits of Rationals in Please Understand Me (either I or II)
and lay it next to a list of AS symptoms. And most of the famous dead the
AAAS people claim for their own seems to have been INTPs.
