Subject: Call for Paper: GENDER Issue
CALL FOR PAPERS :

Gender: Theories, Challenges and Impacts

The debates around gender and the role it plays in a society have
become of increasing importance amongst social scientists, academics
and policy makers.  This debate has been fuelled by the fact that a
variety of political, economic, ideological and cultural factors
determine the role each gender plays in a society and, in most
societies, those roles  are characterized by unequal power relations.
In a perfect world gender equity refers to the fair and just
distribution of all means of opportunities and resources between women
and men and chances in life will not depend on their sexual
orientation. However, in most societies and cultures, a thorough
examination of relationships between men and women, their roles,
privileges, status and positions, tends to reveal an unequal power
distribution due to gender differences. Gender issues tend to arise
when inequalities and inequities exist between people purely on the
basis of their being female or male.

This special issue of the International Journal of Social Inquiry
focuses on understanding the role of gender and the complex debates
surrounding this term. The Special Issue Editors welcome contributions
reflecting different perspectives, methodological approaches,
international and cross-cultural contexts. While empirical papers are
strongly encouraged, theoretical and conceptual contributions which
address issues arising from gender inequalities and wider aspects of
the gender debate within social science research are particularly
welcome.

The Special Issue seeks high-quality papers that will contribute
significantly to our knowledge and understanding of the role of
gender, issues arising from gender inequalities and possible solution
to those issues.

The details for submission of manuscripts are available on the Journal
website at

http://www.socialinquiry.org/

The papers for this edition are due by the 1st of December, 2008.
