The foreign ministers of eight Middle East nations reached that consensus at a
meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said on
Saturday.
Speaking after the meeting, al-Faisal said the meeting's participants, who
included the non-Arab states of Turkey and Iran, opposed a U.S. call to lift
U.N. sanctions on Iraq until Baghdad has established a legitimate government of
its own.
Washington wants a quick end to the 12-year-old sanctions, which would allow
Iraq to sell its oil to help pay for post-war reconstruction following the
overthrow of Saddam Hussein.
The sanctions are the main political leverage that U.N. Security Council
members -- including anti-war states France, Germany and Russia -- have to
persuade America to give the United Nations a central role in the
reconstruction of Iraq.
Faisal, speaking after the meeting, said the invading U.S.-led forces must
re-establish security and withdraw swiftly, allowing Iraqis to form their own
government.
"(The ministers) affirmed that the Iraqi people should administer and govern
their country by themselves, and any exploitation of their natural resources
should be in conformity with the will of the legitimate Iraqi government and
its people," Faisal said, reading from a joint statement.
The U.S. occupation of Iraq also received a thumbs down on Friday from tens of
thousands of protesters in Baghdad who demanded that United States get out of
the country.
Muslims poured out of mosques and into the streets of Baghdad, calling for an
Islamic state to be established in the biggest protest since U.S. forces ended
Saddam's harsh 24-year rule nine days ago.
Carrying Korans, prayer mats and banners, masses of Iraqis marched in a protest
that organizers said represented both Iraq's majority Shi'ite Muslims and
powerful Sunnis.
"Leave our country, we want peace," read one banner. "No Bush, No Saddam, Yes
Yes to Islam," read another.
IMPORTANT CAPTURE
U.S. Central Command in Qatar said Iraqi Kurds had captured and handed over
Samir Abul Aziz al-Najim, a senior Baghdad official of Saddam's Baath Party,
near Mosul in northern Iraq.
Najim was on a U.S. list of 55 most-wanted Iraqis and Brigadier Gen. Vincent
Brooks told a news briefing he may have been posted to northern Iraq to take
command of some military operations there.
Later U.S. officials in Washington said an Iraqi official who had been involved
in the country's suspected nerve gas program had surrendered to American forces
and was being interrogated.
Imad Husayn Abdallah al-Ani, who was not on the U.S. military's most-wanted
list, had turned himself in recently but is denying that the country was
developing weapons of mass destruction, a U.S. official said.
He was involved in Iraq's suspected program to produce the VX nerve agent about
a decade ago, but it was unclear what his most recent involvement might have
been, the official said.
Asked how big a fish he was, the official replied: "He is not a minnow and he
is not a whale."
Abu Dhabi television, meanwhile, aired footage said to show Saddam and his son
Qusay addressing a crowd in Baghdad from the top of a car on April 9 -- the day
the city fell. An American intelligence official said the United States would
review the video to determine whether Saddam, target of at least two bombing
raids aimed at killing him, had survived.
The state-run channel said the pictures were taken on the same day U.S. tanks
drove into central Baghdad and Iraqis toppled a massive statue of Saddam.
Abu Dhabi television also played an audio tape that it said was the last radio
speech broadcast by Saddam, but it was not clear when it was thought to have
been recorded.
In the audio tape, the voice said to be that of Saddam called on Iraqis to make
sacrifices "to protect our land and our rights."
Well, what usually happens to delusional people that attack giants is
beginning to happen to them. The giant wandered from his customary path and
stepped on a few of the bugs. He decided that stepping on bugs was fun. Now
he does not want to leave the land of the bugs until all of the bugs are
either squashed or re-educated into being nicer bugs. Bugs that don't mess
with the giant when he is not in the mood to play.
Whine, wail, complain all you want Middle Eastern cockroaches. The giant
will not heed your screams of dismay, but he will step on those that
continue their erroneous ways and he will re-educate the young cockroaches
into being good little bugs. Bye-bye Islam. Your day is over.

Gee, real tolerant! Bound to make the world a better place.
Sickening, isn't it? :(

Not only that, those other arab states are guilty of nearly as
much brutality to their own people as saddam was. We didn't invade
iraq because saddam was being mean to his own people, we invaded
because he had history of agression against neighbors and had some
wmd's and was close to getting nukes.
In places like saudi arabia you often find summary executions,
without trial, by beheading.
We shouldn't kid ourselves that the mid-east arab states are going
to be more ethical or more humanitarian just because we want them to.
There is still a large gap in understanding between our culture and
theirs, and it seems the only words they really understand from us
right now are force / military power.
Eventually we'll meet in the middle somewhere, but it may take a
few decades. Cultures often come to understanding each other after
warring together for a while.
No, that's crouton. You frenchcanooks should know that; its a

Tolerant? No, not any more. Righteous indignation is a better
description.
The secret is out and the word is spreading. Their real agenda is no
tolerance for other religions or lifestyles.
The "Peace and Love" philosphy of liberals that existed for several decades
never anticipated an enemy as determined and unforgiving as Islam. I'll not
tolerate it for a second.

Ah -- 'righteous'... is that what it is?
Like.... beating your grandmother when she disagrees with you or
decides to become a Buddhist, you mean?

I find myself in a unique position. I do not hate people because of their
race. I used not to hate people because of their religion, but this Islamist
thing has pushed me over the edge. I make no apologies. I want the Islamists
dead or converted to being sane again.
I do not hate Arabs or even peace loving Muslims. This Islamist thing is
another story.
A Christian could make the argument that with the creation of the Islamists,
Satan has finally pushed me to hatred. I could not deny that it is true.
These people scare the shit out of me. Who else but a demon could do the
horrible things that were done to Jessica Lynch?
The Islamists should really consider if they want to live on the same planet
as a giant that has been severely frightened. Squash!

Were there videos of the Spanish Catholics' rape of Central and South

bloddy atrocities of the medieval Christian Crusades, too? :(

I had some friends based in SA after gulf I, there was a town square
nicknamed 'chopping block' or something to that effect. Anyway, all
the criminals etc. for that week were taken there and publicly
executed and had their hands chopped off etc. It was public
entertainment, well for the spectators anyway.
