Looking at Edwards' special this week, it just occured to me, those dead
people are not in heaven or hell.

People who die don't immediately go to heaven or hell, this will happen
only at the last judgement...

It says about God and the last judgement "when He will judge the living
and the dead" (the Catholic Credo says that verbatim), this belief is
common to all the monotheist religions anyway, although not sure if
Saints are not given a free pass right away. Anyway, they are very rare.

So, hence, until then, where do they all go? They are all in Limbo.

This explains why they always show up at John's requesting signs, and
also why Nostradamus could communicate with his own ancestors...

But yet, we see that even there in the afterlife, they apparently know
even less about heaven than we do in life. It appears that they won't
see the light of their predicament, so long it lasts, and won't until
the last judgement...

Nostradamus knew more than all of them, even if they are with him...
It's like, appearently, even dead, people don't really have more clue
than alive, even privy to all secrets.

It's little wonder people this side of the mirror, let alone those few
lurking on the NG, although it is the seer's (despite appearances), just
don't get it... but not for ever. As the Seer says, "but when the time
will come when ignorance must be dissipated ", the affair will become
clear). For a while still...

The Last Judgement will come around the year 3000.

It is best for the departed to only send good wishes and not try to draw him
or her into contact with the physical world. An attempt to contact the
physical world encourages addictions, fear and hate that the departed needs
to rid him/herself from in order to get to heaven.

I think that is the most common experience with near-death experiences. I
don't know for sure but the people who have them often have a different
perspective of life for the rest of their life.

I think that the authors you've read (bible?) or you misunderstood the
truth. Nearly everyone is in heaven AND hell right now. If you fear anything
or fear being without anything, angry about anyone or get angry, or have ANY
desires associated with the physical realm you will experience some hell
after death. That hell is experienced every time you feel fear, anger, or
lust for anything (I'm not restricting the word to sex but any addiction).
