STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish museum dedicated to world culture has
removed an erotic painting plastered with verses from the Muslim holy
book, the Koran, from an exhibition about AIDS after Muslims
complained it was obscene.
Jette Sandahl, director of the World Culture Museum, which opened in
Gothenburg a month ago, said on Wednesday that the painting by an Arab
artist living in France was replaced by another less offensive one.
Sweden is home to 400,000 Muslims. The row over artist Louzla Darabi's
painting comes amid tensions in Europe about a perceived increase in
Islamic militancy since a Dutch filmmaker critical of Islam was
murdered in the Netherlands late last year.
Sandahl told Reuters that most of the hundreds of e-mails and letters
sent were "respectful and polite but some were more aggressive."
"It was the combination of the image and text from the Koran which was
problematic," she added.
Darabi told Gothenburg Channel 4 television that her work was not
meant "offend anyone but to stress the link between love and God
symbolised by the Koran's text".
Sandahl said the painting was removed to prevent public attention
shifting from the exhibition's main message about AIDS and
globalisation.
"It's a good exhibition on HIV-AIDS but it doesn't really back up a
qualified discussion on the relationship between artistic freedom and
religious freedom," she said.

As opposed to the Israeli ambassador who went berserk and destroyed a
piece of art and attacked a security guard when he didn't like an
exhibit...at the same museum too if I remember correctly!

Course I can. Muslims didn't like an exhibit and complained so it was
removed. The Israeli ambassador didn't like an exhibit but instead of
complaining he went berserk and destroyed it and attacked a security
guard who tried to stop him. You're trying to make Muslims look bad as
per usual. I'm countering it. Very simple! Would you mind telling me
what you think of the ambassador's behaviour? Or is my countering your
obvious attempt to belittle Muslims too far over your thick head for
you to understand?

covered in elephant dung nothing was done?

Auction house withdraws Hitler portrait

LONDON -- A British auction house said Wednesday it had withdrawn a
signed photo of Adolf Hitler from auction after a complaint that the
timing of the sale - less than a week after Holocaust Remembrance Day -
was insensitive.
Auctioneer Mullock Madeley, based in Shropshire county in central
England, said the autographed, postcard-sized portrait was dropped from
a sale of historical books and documents after a member of a local
Jewish group complained.
"The gentleman felt it was insensitive at this time, with the memorial
of Auschwitz last week, to be selling a signed photograph of Hitler,"
said spokesman Richard Westwood-Brookes.
"We are not in the business of glorifying the Nazis or offending
people. We listened to the gentleman's arguments and felt that in this
one incident it might be a little insensitive to sell it at public
auction."
Westwood-Brookes said the portrait would still be offered for sale
privately.
Nations around the world held ceremonies last Thursday marking the 60th
anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp
Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Yes I understand that you will never see anything wrong with
Christianity being attacked, but you will always defend Islam even for
