Few people know that no insurance companies will insure against
nuclear accidents!!
see the article excerpt below "HOW SAFE IS NUCLEAR POWER" below for
details.

follow the tips in the above article, and most importantly demand that
all nuclear sites be shut down ASAP!

HOW SAFE IS NUCLEAR POWER?
By Dietrich Fischer

Basel, Switzerland, MARCH 2011, 2011 (IPS) - Why do we have nuclear
power despite all of its dangers for current and future generations?
There is a simple reason. Nuclear power plants are highly profitable
for a few, at the expense of other people's safety. Electricity from a
nuclear power station can be cut off if people do not pay their bills,
but energy from the sun collected on house roofs cannot be cut off. It
makes people independent. The nuclear lobby does not want that, writes
Dietrich Fischer, Academic Director of the World Peace
Academy,Director of the TRANSCEND University Press, author of
"Nonmilitary Aspects of Security" and "Preventing War in the Nuclear
Age."

It is remarkable that all insurance companies have so far refused to
insure against nuclear accidents, because they argue that they do not
want to risk their money based on some professor's calculations
claiming the risk is low. What if he is wrong? Insurance companies
insist to base their risk calculations on real experience.

Because insurance companies refuse to cover the risks of nuclear
accidents, the Price- Anderson Act of 1957 commits the US federal
government to cover such risks. Other countries have similar
legislation. This represents an enormous subsidy by the taxpayers to
the nuclear industry. If the nuclear power industry were forced by law
to pay for insurance against accidents, and pay for the safe disposal
of its waste, we would have no nuclear power plants.

WHAT WOULD A TSUNAMI DO FOR A BREEDER REACTOR?
By Risto Isomaki

HELSINKI, MARCH 2011, 2011 (IPS) - The idea of a breeder reactor
programme has been re-awakened by concerns related to global warming.
Many governments see nuclear power as a partial solution to our carbon
dioxide problem. Our present nuclear reactors, however, can only
provide for a minuscule part of our energy needs, writes Risto
Isomaki, an environmental activist and awarded Finnish writer whose
novels have been translated into several languages.

In this article the author writes that sufficiently-concentrated
natural uranium deposits might last for 80-100 years for the present
number of nuclear reactors. In practise this means, that if we want to
multiply the production of nuclear power, we have to use breeder
reactors, which produce more nuclear fuel than they consume generating
electricity. However, all the breeder reactors which have been
constructed, thus far, have used liquid sodium or lithium as their
coolant. Both metals explode when they contact water or air. It is
very difficult to construct the cooling pipes of a breeder reactor in
such a way that they cannot be damaged by a very large tsunami.

But India is already constructing a 500-megawatt sodium-cooled breeder
reactor to Kalpakkam, on the coast of Tamil Nadu. The final goal of
India's nuclear programme is to construct 600 gigawatts of breeder
reactors by 2050. These breeders would have to be located in coastal
areas because they need huge amounts of cooling water. If the
programme is carried out, the human species will soon have an official
expiry date, for the first time in our history. That will be the day
the next giant tsunami hits a major stretch of India's coastline.

delay. They are a major source of deadly pollution..."

It is not safe to use nuclear energy. The people of the world need to
demand that their governments stop building and using nuclear energy
plants. It's high time that we focussed on the widely available safe
renewable options for power generation. Please contact your
senators/congresspeople and tell them to phase out nuclear power ASAP!
If we don't make some changes soon, there may not be any fresh air to
enjoy. We should not take anything for granted.

Please spread this information around. Too many people are sitting in
the dark, ignorantly trusting their MISleaders!
The truth will set us free from the horrors caused by lies &
ignorance, but only if enough people are aware of it.

Most American drivers are required by law to have at least liability
coverage for their cars, but corporate greed machines, capable of
anihilating the human race via nuclear accidents, couldn't buy
insurance for their nuclear power plants even if they wanted to. The
risks are too high. All the other, non-nuclear power plants have
disaster insurance.

Apparently, the nuclear power arena is full of insanely greedy dirty
rats who have no respect for the people, the environment, the truth,
or democracy. For them, it's all about money.

If our politicians were truly interested in having a goverment that
was actually "for the people", they would demand that all nuclear
power plants be closed at once. Let the investors and bankers lose a
few billion for a change - and the people and the environment not be
at risk of nuclear annihilation!
