No evidence exists that it is not "real".
It's too early to judge the effectiveness of the new engine features.
It would be best to employ a blend of separate protective solutions
till more facts surface. Eventually you will either need to upgrade
or abandon anyway.
While adequately protected with other spyware solutions, why not
seriously field test with us and post your impressions in a few months?
Your serious thoughts, with those of others, would be quite welcome.

If at some point you are unable to tolerate Ad-Aware, many of us have
moved on to the superior MBAM & SAS.
If you haven't already discovered them, you could give their freeware
versions a try:

Respectfully no. I would use Avira's AntiVir Personal with Windows 7.
However, you must be cognizant of /all/ your antimalware needs along
with your system's total security protection requirements.
