Subject: New User Question
I continuously encounter new users that have minimal technical skills.
The problem is most of these folks will be overloaded with spyware in
short order and they haven't a clue how to fix their problem. There are
any number of good forums for folks that have a bit of technical
background but I'm wondering where to send folks to learn about the
problem and the solutions. These folks haven't a clue about how to
configure a newsreader. Where would you send the newbies to get a
gradual education in bites they can handle?

Hi JustMe, you may also want to refer folks to our FAQ, and particularly
point out the Appendix.

Thanks, I had considered the FAQ but never looked closely at the
appendix. Most of this is too advanced for the folks I had in mind
although your site is along the lines of what I need. I'll probably cut
your link and include it with the stuff YoKenny provided.

The folks I was thinking about are the folks that go down to Best Buy
or wherever their credit card takes them and buy a computer because
their neighbor has one. These folks sign up for AOHell and in 2 mos
their PC is so polluted they can't use any application for all the
popups.

Since I work as a network admin and everyone knows who I am, guess who
gets the plea for help or has to listen to the sad tale of woe. I
really don't want to fix their machines for them and I feel guilty if I
send them to the local repair shop. I figure educating them is the best
bet, then they can fix it them self. There really needs to be a
solution that's less expensive than the shop. I feel sorry for them but
don't want to fix it and become obligated. You know how that works. You
touch it, you own it.
