" A man loves Nature in the morning for
her innocence and amiability, and at
nightfall, if he is loving her still, it is for her
darkness and her cruelty." G.K. Chesterton
That's at 11 in the morning, after a couple of hours of work.
At nightfall, it is for her inexorable, impeturbable, victorious
silence that she is loved -- or hated.

And then there's the magic times, beloved of us ancient
"modernists," between the dark of the night and the full
light of Phoebus' day -- the faerie times!

Sounds more like late Romanticism to me. Swinburne and all
that sort of thing.

Between the dark and the daylight, when the night is beginning to
lower, comes a pause in the day's occupation, that is known as
the children's hour.
Lee Rudolph, forbearing to quote from _The City of Dreadful Night_
This is an interesting piece of verse, because one is almost
certain to read the second line incorrectly until one comes
to the fourth, whose rhyme informs us that _lower_ is the
_lower_ which means "to be gloomy or threatening" rather
than "to become or make low". A trick wise guys like
Nabokov may have played, but Longfellow???
And now, to put this thread to sleep:
Lullaby for the Cat
Minnow, go to sleep and dream,
Close your great big eyes;
Round your bed Events prepare
The pleasantest surprise.
Darling Minnow, drop that frown,
Just cooperate,
Not a kitten shall be drowned
In the Marxist State.
Joy and Love will both be yours,
Minnow, don't be glum.
Happy days are coming soon---
Sleep, and let them come...

"In order to utilize this period of history and to create an extremely evil
situation in this world's environment, the old forces have used all kinds
of methods and have sealed off all media outlets inside and outside
China that could reveal the truth. In persecuting Dafa disciples, the Party
has made use of all its experiences in every past campaign and struggle,
along with evil means of all times and all lands. Meanwhile, it has also
utilized the bad things, the cunningness, and the treachery that have
formed in the Chinese intellect over the last few thousand years. The
means it has adopted are extremely sinister. That's why at the begin-
ning of the oppression many of the world's people were deceived by the
lies." Li Hongzhi
