It's being reported that Sanford, the Governor of South
Carolina, had asked his wife, Jenny, permission before visiting
his lover in Argentina last month.
The interesting thing about this reporting is that the
act of asking (and apparently, receiving) permission is being
uniformly decried as a Bad Thing.
"Do we really need a governor who needs permission?"
asks Caren Ross, of Beaufort, S.C. (on islandpacket.com).
Obviously Sanford has problems and is not at his best
in recent weeks, but does it ever occur to anyone in the
media that maybe it's better to coordinate these things
than to operate open-loop? That "asking permission" (which
probably means, having a discussion) is maybe the right
thing to do?

Logic during a feeding frenzy? But I guess we can always hope this
leads to some sane discussion somewhere....
I hear from people "Sure, all the adults involved are cool with it,
which I guess is better than if they weren't, but you're still
setting a bad example for your children." Yeah, I'd hate to have
my children actually be happy in their personal lives instead of
following some arbitrary social norm. Sigh.
