she would appear to have exemplary credentials, but then if Mitt picks
someone else, it's likely to be one with less than exemplary
credentials compared to her, making the other pick look worse than he
or she might've otherwise looked without the distraction. Man, Romney
really knows how to play a lose-lose game - except when it comes to
money, of course. I think he's living through the Peter Principle
phase of his life right now - he's beyond his capabilities and league
to succeed successfully in politics, all he can succeed at is losing.

I also talked about the essence of America, and I think perhaps that
is what people resonated with, that this is a country in which people
really believe that it doesn't matter where you came from, it matters
where you're going and that we really need to concentrate on
rebuilding our strengths as a country of immigrants, a country where
it doesn't really matter your zip code so that you can get a good
education, and the need to really pay attention to those strengths so
that we can lead from an internal strength at home.
Whoa, really? When was the last time a bunch of Republicans got a
tingle up their leg because somebody talked about the importance of
immigration and public education? Anyway, despite their desperate,
lusty cries that she join the ticket, Ms. Rice says it's a no-go:
"There is no way that I will do this." She added, "Charlie, I didn't
run for student council president. I don't see myself in any way in
elected office." And in case there was even a tiny shred of doubt left
in our minds, there's this:
I'm saying there is no way that I will do this, because it's really
not me. I know my strengths, and governor Romney needs to find someone
who wants to run with him.
Therein lies the trick. Who does want to join Mitt as co-captain of
the U.S.S. Flip-Flop? No matter what, it's probably for the best that
Condoleezza is not a willing VP. For one thing, [insert any decision
from the Bush Administration here]. And for another, she doesn't even
