The whole thing is a huge waste of resources. The IRS and Benghazi
situations will dry up and pass like a "fart in the wind". Nobody will
get indicted, nothing will get accomplished. The game is anyone who is
called to Congress uses the classic terms like "I don't recall", "Let
me get back to you with that" and the classic "I don't remember". What

The Benghazi matter is a nothing-burger, merely an attempt to smear
Obama and Hillary Clinton. The White House already released the e-mails
that prove it. However, it's very damning that the Republicans had
already released altered versions of those same e-mails. The IRS matter
is very serious, but the IG report already shows how it happened and who
did it, and there is absolutely no connection to the White House.
Republican allegations that Obama was using the IRS to suppress right
wing groups is simply a cynical partisan lie. The AP situation is also
a serious matter that requires further investigation. Most probably,
it's past time for Holder to be fired.

directors.

Which doesn't make it correct. As I learned when I was in management, if
there is a problem in a department and the department manager doesn't fix
it, you get a new department manager. You don't promote the old one.

Now, just where did I say that, Jeff? I said if he didn't know what his
departments were doing. It is up to those department managers to keep
the department running correctly. The single lead executive has to know
how the business as a whole is doing. You do that by making sure that
each department is being managed correctly. As you go down the chain,
the overview gets smaller and the details get bigger.

that, as well. At least by demanding his resignation, his record is
blemished before he can quietly slip back into relative obscurity. So

As I have said earlier, I believe that to be theater. That director was
an acting one. In about three weeks he would have had to have been named
as THE director or replaced anyway. It makes a good appearance to remove
him.....just keep an eye on where he is in six months.

As I said, it was about the same as Jay Carney's claim that all the
changes the White House made were simply stylistic. If you look at the
Emails, the same basic thing is said but the wordings are different. Is
it right to do that? NO! But you can't have it both ways, ignoring
changes and alterations during the process but castigating Republicans
for changing wordings but not essence. That would be the same for both
sides. Both parties get to carry home the Pinnochio awards on this one.

false accusations against Obama.

This a a faulty comparison. There is no equivalence whatsoever between
what the Obama administration did and what the Republicans did.

In the former, it was a question of preparing and deciding what to
release and what to withhold, based on the available information, what
could be confirmed at the time, and the input of the government agencies
involved, notably the CIA and the State Department, before releasing the
information, i.e. trying to get their ducks in a row before making any
official pronouncements. Arguably, they mishandled that process, but it
was an attempt to get it right.

On the other side, it appears that the Republicans intentionally
falsified the versions of the e-mails they released to lend credence to
their false claim of a White House orchestrated cover-up. It was an
attempt to perpetrate a fraud and deceive the American public about the
true facts, for partisan political purposes, so they would get it wrong.

Funny, I did just that. I get quite a few choices from such unbiased
places as Daily Kos, Huffington Post, Think Progress, and Salon. Then at
the bottom of the first page, I finally get to read the CBS article they
all reference. And no where does it say the Republicans altered anything.

CBS reports that there are differences between the version released by
the Republicans and the version released by the White House. No where in
the article does it say where the changes occurred. From the CBS
article, it is just as likely that the versions released by the White
House have been altered as it is the Republican released versions.

In a normal case like this, the basic choice would be who would have the
most reason to lie. That is not a valid criterion for this case because
both sides have equally important reasons to lie. The next criterion I
would use is who has a reputation for lying. Again, that is not a valid
criterion for this case since both sides are known to lie all the time.

Which leaves me choosing based on who is making the claims and my
personal biases. Based on my opinion of who is claiming the Republicans
altered the e-mails, I tend to think the administration is lying again.
I won't say they are until i get more evidence, but I surely do lean
that way right now.

from the WH e-mails. What the WH released were the actual e-mails
themselves, as the CBS report makes perfectly clear.

In fact, the whole picture of the "consulate" in Benghazi, as
portrayed in most of the headlines and hearings, is misleading. It was
not really a consulate at all by the strict State Department
definition of the term, it was called a "special mission" and had
grown out of the improvised presence that Chris Stevens had
established in Benghazi as the envoy to the rebels during the fighting
to overthrow the Gaddafi dictatorship.

From the beginning, the agency was there behind the scenes. When a
terrorist bomb hit the hotel where Stevens was staying during the
fighting in 2011, he and his team just moved in with the CIA at their
so-called "Annex."

Even after Stevens officially became ambassador in Tripoli in mid-2012
he did not take the initiative to turn the diplomatic mission in
Benghazi into a formal consulate. Partly as a result, it started to
fall between the bureaucratic cracks at Foggy Bottom and couldn�t
command as many security measures as it should have. as it should
have.

As one knowledgeable U.S. official told The Daily Beast's Eli Lake,
"The Benghazi compound was a U.S, intelligence station with State
Department cover." The agency operation run out of "the Annex"
involved at least two dozen people. The "mission" was their satellite,
not the other way around. And what were the agency people doing in
Benghazi? Obviously, among other things, hunting for Al Qaeda�which by
last September appeared to be hunting for them, as Newsweek reported
in its investigation of the case last October.

State Department security officers were too few and fortifications too
weak to withstand a mob attack or a terrorist assault like the one on
September 11. And it is not clear how much more like Fort Apache that
compound would have had to be in order to hold off such an attack.
It's doubtful there would have been enough fortification and firepower
under any circumstances

I guess you are right but the habits of Klauss and certain other
posters of editing out cites from their responses, and either claiming
it was never posted, or even having the audacity to demand a cite
after removing it seems to verge on pathology.
