I also recall Reagan barely got 50 percent of the popular vote. Let's look at Republican logic: 1992 and 1996- Clinton never had a popular vote majority so he lacked a mandate. 2000-Only the electoral vote matters. 2004-51 percent is a mandate 2006-52percent is not a mandate.
