John Wayne gives the little Vietnamese kid the beret from the team
sergeant who was KIA, the song "Ballad of the Green Berets" swells in
the background, and the sun sets over the South China Sea.
One minor problem. The South China Sea is EAST of Vietnam. The sun
sets in the WEST. Unless, of course, you are Marion Morrison -- oops
-- meant to say "unless you are John Wayne" -- then the sun sets
anydamn place you want it to.
Those were the days.

Actually, John Watne made the sun set in the east for the movie.
Impressive, nonetheless.
Well, as ol' John demonstrated: east, west, what's the difference??

No one noticed the island in the back ground was Catalina island and
the print had been reversed to show the sun setting in the wrong
direction. Attention to detail keeps most people alive longer but I
wonder about some of you.

The sun was setting WEST over the Tonkin Gulf..............

You wouldn't know..................
Well, let's see...
He was a member of the John Birch Society, which although they
may have had some sensible anti-tax policies, was a very racist group.
He verbally backed every action the US military ever took
without analyzing whether the people who sent them were right or wrong
in doing so.
He didn't actually serve in the military himself, and...
...as far as I'm concerned he wasn't a very good actor.
I suppose if he was still alive today he'd be running for
office somewhere as a Republican.
You need to mind your own business, Canadian Asshole.
> He was a member of the John Birch Society,
For a short while...
"Wayne's erstwhile membership in the John Birch Society was the
reason, even though he had given up on the organization after it
denounced fluoridation of water supplies as a communist plot."

No, they weren't racist, they were anti-Communist and anti-Socialist.
They picked up the tag "racist" from Socialists and Communists LIKE
YOU because they oppossed the Civil Rights Act. (Which is NONE OF YOUR
BUSINESS, Canadian Asshole.)
"The society opposed aspects of the civil rights movement in the 1960s
because of its concerns that the movement had communists in important
positions - for instance, in the latter half of 1965, the JBS produced
a flyer titled “What’s Wrong With Civil Rights?”, to also be used as a
newspaper advertisement. As published, one of the answers provided by
the JBS was: “For the civil rights movement in the United States, with
all of its growing agitation and riots and bitterness, and insidious
steps towards the appearance of a civil war, has not been infiltrated
by the Communists, as you now frequently hear. It has been
deliberately and almost wholly created by the Communists patiently
building up to this present stage for more than forty years.” The
society opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, saying it was in
violation of the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution and
overstepped the rights of individual states to enact laws regarding
civil rights. The society is against "one world government", and has
an immigration reduction view on immigration reform."

Neither did you, Canadian Asshole...
"Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of
Pearl Harbor) and family status, classified as 3-A (family
deferment)."

Yeah, movies have *lots* of that. Did you really believe the rest of
the movie? Is there a river anyplace in Vietnam that even comes close
to the one traveled by the PBR in *Apocalypse Now"? Can a UH-1 really
pick up a loaded PBR? If so, then why not just fly around all of the
beach fortifications and call the Jersey for those?
But, then... we'd have missed the assault scene with *Ride of the
Valkyries* playing, not?
Hey, I met Colonel Kilgore.

Why are you so fucking stupid??????????????
