WHAT are you smoking honey?  I want SOME!!!  Our economy had a small

Greenspan scolded him for);  He has made so many bad decisions that the
economy will now have both inflation (from increased oil prices) and
recession (as more people become unemployed); He has divided the country as
no one thought possible after he had absolute and unconditional support when

He has made so many bad decisions that the

  Where did you study econ?

Inflation increased just 0.1 % last month (www.bls.gov.)

When the decline he inherited from the previous administration
became a full blown recession, Bush did all the traditional responses
1) jawboned the fed to lower interest rates..which Greenspan did 2)
Increase the amount of money in the economy via the tax cuts and 3
Increase demand through increased government spending

What else would you have a President (of any party) actually do.
Maybe he didnt mouth phrases like "he felt our pain", but other than
that, he acted appropriately

As far as recession, there will be another one..the question is
always when.

He has divided the country as

> no one thought possible after he had absolute and unconditional support when

The country was evenly divided in 2000..there has been no
fundamental shift since then after the shock of 9/11 wore off. The
only difference is the dislike of Bush by your side has escalated to
full blown hatred

He hasn't captured Bin Laden and the Taliban is not only

very nice article.
http://www.epinet.org/printer.cfm?id=79&content_type=1&nice_name=webf...
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2000/0006.thompson.html

but does not address your question.  I believe most here remember very
clearly when Bush was trying to bully through his Tax cut for the most
wealthy and claimed that we were heading into a big recession which only the
taxcut could save us from.  The market took a dive as soon as he made that
claim and Greenspan had to take him aside and tell him that a president had
to be more responsible for what he said given that his words alone had to
power to panic the market (which it had).  I have not found any quotes as
yet because W's entire time in office has been such a disaster that all of
the normal search words for that incident just bring up hundreds of links to
our current problems.  I will find it though and post it when I do.  In the
mean time - if others remember please back me on it.

>   2) The economy was clearly declining in the second 1/2 of 2000

The economy was declining?  That is a rather broad brush stroke but fine.
The NASDAQ was diving early in 2000 - that I will agree to.  If you look at
a long term plot of the market

 http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=^IXIC&t=my&l=off&z=m&q=l&c=^GSPC,^IXIC,^DJI

it is very clear that the other indexes were doing fine and things were
improving after the tax 'advance' to the middle class. The market was on
it's way up after 911 as well.  President Bush has had almost 4 years and
the best you can say for him is that he has made it much nicer for the very,
very wealthy and screwed everyone else.  Don't confuse your inflation index
with as a barometer to the economy.  Gas prices rising is going to push the
price of everything up while the recession/depression pushes prices down.
If things were at all better than they are the increase we had in gas/oil
prices would have jacked inflation up alot.  That should make you worry.

> 1) jawboned the fed to lower interest rates..which Greenspan did

Bush had nothing to do with Greenspan lowering interest rates.

2)

> Increase the amount of money in the economy via the tax cuts

He did not increase the amount of money in the economy with his tax cuts
because they were for the most part aimed at the very wealthy who did not
put their money back into this economy.  They put it overseas.  The tax cut
to the middle class was one that the Democrats insisted on and one of the
few things they won.

>3 Increase demand through increased government spending

The govenment spending done is being done overseas.  We are spending
billions of $$$ but that money is in Iraq not the U.S. of A

You are completely wrong.  If you do a search for my posts and those of
other's, you will see that we gave Bush complete support after 911.  It was
not until he fabricated an excuse to invade Iraq that he lost that support.
The man's arrogance and complete disrespect for other's point of view is
what has divided this country and NOT that every individual has a different
perspective.

>  He hasn't captured Bin Laden and the Taliban is not only

Are you really unaware of the Taliban's resurgence in both Iraq and
Afghanistan?
