A San Francisco man was arrested today after a bizarre stand-off with
police.  Raymond R. Karczewski, 34, solicited sexual favors from an
eleven year old boy who just happened to be the son of a White Pine
County Sheriff's Deputy, Stanley Dern.  Karczewsk approached the
child just outside the Dern's residence, asking if he had a place to
stay, if he was home alone, and offered the boy narcotics in exchange
for sexual intercourse.

The boy backed away and ran home to tell his father what happened which
prompted a search of the immediate vicinity.  Karczewski was spotted 15
minutes later about four blocks away and Sheriff's Deputies quickly
moved in.

As deputies approached, Karczewski appeared to pull a cucumber out of
his rectum and point it toward them, then tried to run into an alley
but was apparently too intoxicated to remain on his feet.

"It was bizarre" Dern reported, "He was slurring his words but he
distinctly said that he was Jesus Christ and that we would all go to
Hell for arresting him."  "He pulled a cucumber and called it a
bomb."
