Reuters) - Pakistani authorities have sentenced a doctor accused of
helping the CIA find Osama bin Laden to 33 years in jail on charges of
treason, officials said, a move almost certain to further strain ties
between Washington and Islamabad.

Shakil Afridi was accused of running a fake vaccination campaign, in
which he collected DNA samples, that is believed to have helped the
American intelligence agency track down bin Laden in a Pakistani town.

The al Qaeda chieftain was killed in a unilateral U.S. special forces
raid in the town of Abbottabad in May last year.

"Dr Shakil has been sentenced to 33 years imprisonment and a fine of
320,000 Pakistani rupees ($3,477)," said Mohammad Nasir, a government
official in the northwestern city of Peshawar, where the jail term will
be served. He gave no further details.

Afridi is the first person to be sentenced by Pakistani authorities in
the bin Laden case.

The sentence was handed down under tribal laws, which unlike the
national penal code, do not carry the death penalty for treason.

U.S. officials were strongly critical of the sentencing.

"Without commenting on specific individuals, anyone who helped the
United States find bin Laden was working against al Qaeda and not
against Pakistan," said Pentagon spokesman George Little.

Bin Laden's long presence in Pakistan -- he was believed to have stayed
there for years -- despite the worldwide manhunt for him raised
suspicions in Washington that Pakistani intelligence officials may have
sheltered him.

Pakistani officials deny this and say an intelligence gap enabled bin
Laden to live here undetected.

No one has yet been charged for helping the al Qaeda leader take refuge
in Pakistan. A government commission tasked with investigating how he
managed to evade capture by Pakistani authorities for so long is widely
accused of being ineffective.

Afridi's imprisonment will almost certainly anger ally Washington at a
sensitive time, with both sides engaged in difficult talks over re-
opening NATO supply routes to U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan.

Senior U.S. officials had made public appeals for Pakistan, a recipient
of billions of dollars in American aid, to release Afridi, detained
within weeks of the raid that killed bin Laden and strained ties with
Islamabad.

In January, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said in a television
interview that Afridi and his team had been key in finding bin Laden,
describing him as helpful and insisting the doctor had not committed
treason or harmed Pakistan.

U.S. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher introduced legislation in February
calling for Afridi to be granted American citizenship and said it was
"shameful and unforgivable that our supposed allies" charged him.

Funny how the adminstration seem to makea habit of outing CIA sources in

He also flipped the network of which Joe Wilson's wife was a part, so
Bush was treasonous. Plus you bullshit about Obama.

On July 14, 2003, Washington Times journalist Robert Novak, from
information obtained from Richard Armitage at the US State Department,
effectively ended Valerie Plame's career with the CIA (from which she
later resigned in December 2005) by revealing in his column her identity
as a CIA operative.[33][34] Legal documents published in the course of
the CIA leak grand jury investigation, United States v. Libby, and
Congressional investigations, establish her classified employment as a
covert officer for the CIA at the time that Novak's column was published
in July 2003
She was not involved in any operations having to do with Al Qaeda. Her
life was never at risk like Shakil Afridi and others exposed by Obama's

Those investigations were another one of Bush/Cheney's farces when they
placed themselves above the law and gave democracy an anal screwing.

The other part of your story is that Plame's husband uncovered the lie
Bush was peddling that Saddam Hussein had purchased enriched yellowcake
uranium from Niger, and flipping Plame as a spy was Bush/Cheney's
revenge.

Wilson's own words"I was convinced before the war that the threat of
weapons of mass destruction in the hands of Saddam Hussein required a
vigorous and sustained international response to disarm him. Iraq
possessed and had used chemical weapons; it had an active biological
weapons program and quite possibly a nuclear research program — all of
which were in violation of United Nations resolutions. Having
encountered Mr. Hussein and his thugs in the run-up to the Persian Gulf
war of 1991, I was only too aware of the dangers he posed" Fact is he
did not find evidence which niether prove nor disproves,His actual words
were "HIGHLY DOUBTFUL" The whole thing was faulty intel and to say it
was a deliberate lieing is partisan speculation

All that does not change the fact that Obama has left thesource that

Yeah we know Iraq had WMD's back then because Rumsfeld sold them to
Hussein. But they were destroyed in the first US attack of Iraq. That
was long before Wilson went to Niger. Rumsfeld said the war was going to
last six weeks at most, and Bush knew exactly where they were.
I doubt the Bush/Cheney told the truth about anything backthen.

What war does McCain want to start We know under Obama we have spred the
war on terror unilaterally to Pakistan and Yemen and dropped bombs on
Lybia under Eiropean command, Under Bush we went to went to Afghanistan

It makes me laugh. I recall watching Dick Cavett interviewing a
English Author (I forget his name, darn it). In the course of the
interview, Cavett asked him "What do you think of the new term "gay"
for homosexuals? Would you consider yourself 'gay'."
As I recall the writer's response was along the lines of "no my
dear boy, I've always been a faggot and not going to change things
now."

Since then I have noticed that it seems to me that homosexuals are
what they are, and do not really care if you approve or not. "So
they're fags - so what?" But "Gays" aren't so self-accepting, they
seem to not only want your approval, but need it. That without that
"approval", the find it hard to convince themselves that they're
"okay". Pretty sad, that.

And Democrats are trying to square the circle, and calling Obama a
fag -- well, who cares? Other than his partners and maybe his wife?
Actually, if Obama is Gay, oh dear lord what that does to set back
tolerance!
