Temperatures are falling, not rising

As Christopher Booker says in his review of 2008, temperatures have
been dropping in a wholly unpredicted way over the past year. Last
winter, the northern hemisphere saw its greatest snow cover since
1966, which in the northern US states and Canada was dubbed the
“winter from hell”. This winter looks set to be even worse.

The earth was hotter 1,000 years ago

Evidence from all over the world indicates that the earth was hotter
1,000 years ago than it is today. Research shows that temperatures
were higher in what is known as the Mediaeval Warming period than they
were in the 1990s.

Too bad winter is a local thing or you might actually be on to
something. But then every kid in kindergarten learns that it's colder
in winter. Maybe it's time for you to graduate to the first grade.

What's your point? Global temps have been in flux for millions of
years. Drastic changes can occur if it gets too hot or too cold.
Maybe you need to lookup chaos theory. However, I don't think you'll
find them teaching it in the first grade.

I'll take your rightard blog post and raise you a few actual news
stories from reputable sources:

Earth Hotter Now Than in Past 2,000 Years, Study Says
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/09/080902-hottest-earth.html

Current Warming Period Is Longest in 1,200 Years, Study Says

Those prove you wrong regarding 1000-2000 years.

The following proves you wrong in the last century-plus, which is what
we're concerned about. None of us and none of our kids or grandkids will
be around in 1000 years. 100 years is more realistic.

Temperatures are falling, not rising

As Christopher Booker says in his review of 2008, temperatures have
been dropping in a wholly unpredicted way over the past year. Last
winter, the northern hemisphere saw its greatest snow cover since
1966, which in the northern US states and Canada was dubbed the
winter from hell. This winter looks set to be even worse.

The US and Canada and part of northern Europe were almost the only parts of
the globe that experienced below average temperatures.
If you want to pick out 3% of the globes surface as representative why not
pick Australia where we have just had the hottest 6 month period ever
recorded and where thousands of farmers are abandoning farms that have been
in their families for generations.
2009 is the 4th or 5th hottest year recorded and with La Nina turning into
an El Nino 2010 is at evens to break even the record 1998 outlier.

The earth was hotter 1,000 years ago

Except that it wasn't of course.

Evidence from all over the world indicates that the earth was hotter
1,000 years ago than it is today.
Research shows that temperatures
were higher in what is known as the Mediaeval Warming period than they
were in the 1990s.

Absolutely the opposite is true (what a surprise that is eh?)
The science has recently confirmed (Nove 2009) that, as previously thought,
the MWP was a highly localised anomoly mainly confined to western Europe and
the north Atlantic area.
Elsewhere temperatures were even in places even lower than during the
so-called 'Little Ice Age' - also a localised event.
Oddly, it turns out that Greenland was anomolously warmer than most of the
globe during both the MWP *and* the LIA.

Here's the temperature chart which makes it very easy to see which parts of
the planet were warm and which parts were much colder during the so-called
MWP.
http://www.skepticalscience.com/images/Temperature_Pattern_MWP.gif

"current evidence does not support globally synchronous periods of
anomalous cold or warmth over this time frame, and the conventional terms of
'Little Ice Age' and 'Medieval Warm Period' appear to have limited utility
in describing trends in hemispheric or global mean temperature changes in
past centuries".
\Global temperature records taken from ice cores, tree rings, and lake
deposits, have shown that, taken globally, the Earth may have been slightly
cooler (by 0.03 degrees Celsius) during the 'Medieval Warm Period' than in
the early- and mid-20th century.

All of the below took part in the research which shows the above. There are
many more independant research projects that show the same thing.
1 Department of Meteorology and Earth and Environmental Systems Institute,
Pennsylvania State University,
2 Department of Environmental Science, Roger Williams University,
3 Department of Geosciences, University of Massachusetts,
4 Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research, University of Arizona,
5 NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, New York,
6 Climate Global Dynamics Division, National Center for Atmospheric
Research, Boulder,

So now that you have the FACTS please stop posting this misinformation. You
are helping no-one but vested interests.

This decade is the hottest for thousands of years. Next decade will be
hotter.

That's how anti-science works.
And of course the data WAS NOT 'cooked' - that's just yet another
rightardfact.
But if enough deniers and blogs spam the message that 'hide the decline'
refers to temperature rather than the reality, which is the convergence in
proxy data to instrumental data then it becomes true for them.

"The hockey stick is discredited" is another one of the denier favourites.
The FACT that it has been independently verified on at least 7 or 8 separate
occasions using a variety of different methodologies means nothing to the
anti-science brigade.
The graph is anything but discredited - but again, if you're anti-science
then
simply endlessly repeating the party line makes it true.

This graph from the National Acadamy of Science report that investigated
Manns 'Hockey Stick' graph back in 2006 shows a compilation of large-scale
surface temperature reconstructions from different research groups, each
using its own methodology and selection of proxies, as well as the
instrumental record (beginning in 1856) of global mean surface temperature.
Though there are obviously variations I think the outcome is pretty obvious.

http://books.nap.edu/books/0309102251/xhtml/images/p200108c0g2001.jpg

And that's just one report of many that verify the 'Hockey
Stick'.

And somehow they ALL came up with the same trend seperately and
independantly.

Yet another Top Ten Denier-myth bites the dust.

Shame for them that the MWP has recently been shown to be a localised event
rather than a global event and that it was globaly cooler back then too.
Not that it will stop them endlessly spewing their baseless drivel while the
the heat creeps up and up.
At least in another 20 years these gullible fools and dittoheads will be
shown up for what they are - trouble is by that time it will be too late.

Here's absolute proof the planet was warmer 1,000 years ago than it is
now.

1,000 years ago the Vikings established self-supporting agricultural
colonies in Greenland and Iceland.

Greenland is now totally covered in ice/snow an agriculture in Iceland
is difficult, at best.

What are you? 12 years old? Is that really supposed to be a serious remark.
That's the National Acadamy of Science you are talking about.
Some of the best brains and researchers on the planet contributed to the
report that utterly rebuffs your nonsense.
There are half a dozen seperate independant studies in that report each of
which all produced similar results using a wide range of different
methodologies.

Your own asinine and feckless comments demonstrate your profound ignorance
much more effectively than I ever could.
If you have the slightest evidence that anyone has 'cooked the books'

about op-ed spam from denier-blogs, which is clearly where you get your

It's the deniers who are anti-science.
Show me one single scientific paper that shows how an increase in Co2 in the
atmosphere can possibly NOT be raising temperatures.
If you could do that you would rock the world of physics to it's core and be
on for the Nobel Prize. But of course you can't. All you can do is endlessly
repeat ill-informed rubbish.
Until about 10 years ago I was still undecided. One thing that helped to
convince me the deniers are wrong is the fact that they lie and distort the
facts at every opportunity.
If you are so convinced that you are right why do you have to lie all the
time. Why invent ridiculous canards.

While you're at it show me one remotely credible peice of hard evidence that
anyone anywhere has 'cooked the books' as the noise machine continualy
claims.
Like this ridiculous "hide the decline" nonsense that seems to be on the Top
Ten denier-myth list this particular week. The 'decline' isn't even refering
to the temps. It's refering to one particular data set of about 12 proxy
tree rings and the 'decline' in convergence with real-time intrumental
temperature readings. It was written in about the year 2000 for fuck's sake.
Before you mythical 'decline' even began. Not only that but the proxy showed
an INCREASE in temperatures. Simple common sense should be enough. But that
doesn't matter to you does it? You just continue to spread the lie that 'the
scientists manipulated the data' even though just five minutes reading would
show you the truth.
Every piece of anti-science you morons come up with can be and is debunked.
But then you move on to the next piece of unsubstantiated bullshit,
spreading doubt and confusion. That's how anti-science works.
You come up with such a neverending stream of bullshit that the real
scientists havn't got enough time to waste debunking it all. When they can't
be arsed you claim they can't refute it. Not so. They *really* can't be
arsed wasting energy on you gullible usefull idiots. They have more
important things to do and your bullshit simply doesn't matter.
You have nothing. Meanwhile temperatures are rising.

Show me HOW extra Co2 in the atmosphere can possibly NOT be raising
temperatures in the oceans and then the air and maybe I'll listen.
Everything else is just bullshit.
