1) Culture and "race"/ethnicity do not necessarily coincide.
Singaporeans are frequently culturally hostile to the northern Chinese
- including those of Hong Kong. I shared a few drinks with a
Singaporean Chinese some years ago and he related his views to the
point of what apst PCers would call "racism". Of course if we are
talking about workers displaced by mass immigration then these
sympathies run deeper.
