It is very sad to see how the Netherlands seemingly enlightened effort
to legalize soft drugs like marijuana while strictly enforcing against
hard drugs like heroin completely failed. The legal pot succeeded but
the control of the heroin problem in places like Amsterdam is a disaster.

While weed is a safer intoxicant than alcohol, which is already legal,
there are a lot of things that are unhealthy about smoking any kind of
burning weed -- but that shouldn't make it a controlled substance
classified with the narcotics for some types of law enforcement.

There is a lot of decriminalization of marijuana worldwide and in
various US states. Californians will vote on AB 2254 in 2010 Nov. --
"Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act, to legalize,
regulate, and tax the recreational use of cannabis in California"

... to the tune of $50 an oz. I haven't read the bill yet; I don't
know if the current legal medical marijuana in CA will have the same tax.

Here in Canada it is legal country wide if a licensed Physician prescribes it for
people with excruciating and prolonged pain. There is a Bill in front of the
Parliament at present which if passes will make it legal for anybody to use it
providing the set amount allowed to be in possession is respected.(I do not know
what the amount is).T he law as it is today is that persons who are in possession of
more than 2 oz is liable for a fine . The criminal code has no provisions for pot
because it was taken out of the Criminal act and put over to the Civil Act.
The way it looks and the consensus is here in Canada that the Parliament will
approve it providing that the pot growers will be licensed by the government. This
will take it out of the hands of illegal growers. That is the idea behind this.
There is also many catches to this which I do not know exactly.
Just to tell you that my member of the Parliament smokes it and according to him
more than half of the elected embers of the Government also smoke it on a
recreational level.

I have been known to smoke it myself, but I suspect you and others
probably figured that out by now. I don't believe it should be illegal in
the United States; as it poses no more harm than alcohol; perhaps less.

I think it's a huge waste of taxpayer dollars to enforce stupid marijuana
laws.

In the USA it is. Fines, possible jailtime. Sadly, I've had the pleasure of
encountering the police atleast once over it.. Several thousand dollars
later and a year of probation. What really pisses me off tho, is an
individual who ran a red light (she was talking on her cell and not paying
attention) kills somebody; gets a very small fine compared to mine, and
doesn't spend one single day in jail. I spent 12 hours myself, and I didn't
kill anybody.

I like a beer, but a smoke of weed mellows one much more. My mate (a
Jamaican who habitually smokes it) and I were discussing the difference
between weed and alcohol last week. We decided that neither of us had ever
felt like killing someone after a few spliffs, in fact both of us would
just lie down and ask our aggressor to let us know when he's finished
kicking.

If I were to be stopped and searched and five-oh discovered about an ounce
of weed somewhere about my person, I'd get a 'street caution'. Saves the
rozzers lots of paperwork and time off the street (which is where they
should be).

Hmm. Aspirin has caused some fatalities, liver failure from intentional
overdoses come to mind....

I don't know of even one instance where weed killed somebody... Do you?

I wasn't twisting anything, actually; Just trying to demonstrate how
utterly stupid "all drug users" is. Everything is a damn drug.

I'll give you a better example. Birth control YAz; approved by the FDA
(supposed to be "safe"). Lots of lawsuits over it now, due to deaths and
other complications from taking it as prescribed... I personally, find the
irony in that very funny.

Hehehe.. Wait man, that's not fair. The drug itself isn't shooting
anybody; the damn drug dealers are. The dealers exist because the public
wants it; legalize it, no more dealers for pot..

Yaz/Yasmin progestin drospirenone has significant advantages over other
progestins.

The lawsuits were mostly about improper marketing techniques by Bayer
trying to promote that pill for purposes other than contraception
because of those progestin advantages and benefits.

wiki overview http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasmin_(drug) In 2008, a
series of television commercials prompted the FDA to cite Bayer for
overstating the approved uses of Yaz while failing to adequately address
the risks of the drug. Bayer was required to dispel the inaccurate
information contained in those ads by creating new ads that clarified
the drug's approved uses

It's been a prescription drug only in the UK for a long time. My dad was

The ubiquitous aspirin and tylenol (ASA & acetaminophen) - or known by
various names all over the world - have long been considered and used as
very safe household drugs for pain and/or fever; but both of them have
their own individual and quite different very serious dangers and risks.

The most common worst kind of aspirin danger is accidental overdose by
children; and the most common worst kind of acetaminophen danger is the
chronic overuse by those taking prescription drugs for chronic pain
which combine the acetaminophen with more potent drugs to comply with
dumb laws.

So, the misguided law is the cause of the chronic acetaminophen misuse
with accompanying dangers and organ damage in most countries. People
are taking too much acetaminophen for too long when they shouldn't be
taking it at all. And also not getting good pain relief at the same time.

The use of small doses of aspirin to reduce cardiovascular risks is an
excellent strategy with very little disadvantages.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspirin ... aspirin is also used long-term,
at low doses, to help prevent heart attacks, strokes, and blood clot
formation in people at high risk for developing blood clots.

I wasn't claiming Aspirin was bad Mike; only that simply because it's
"legal" doesn't necessarily make it entirely safe.

If used properly, it's a useful thing.
