I heard part of her testimony on the radio earlier. I have often
wondered why, when a person is being questioned by congress, feels the
need to invoke the 5th amendment. Granted it does not mean one is
guilty, but by its very wording, seems to imply as much. She's not in a
court of law, although she is under oath. She really screwed up when
they planted the person to ask the question in the news conference some
weeks ago where she "apologized".

She is being recalled as she gave up her 5th amendment rights when she
made her statement of ..."I did nothing wrong...."
You can not make a statement then invoke...it is all in or nothing.

Recall if Martha Stewart had kept her mouth shut she'd never spent a day in

Small point but her statement was before her claim of 5th exemption. I'm
not a lawyer but based on my personal observations no matter what one says
up to the point of invoking the 5th makes the invocation of the 5th invalid.

The only one I saw that claimed a possible qualification was one of the
members of the committee which brings me back to the Kangaroo court/Star
chamber analogy.

No. One can invoke ones 5th amendment rights at any point in a
congressional hearing. Even to specific questions.

The spineless Dems could shut this whole idiotic dog & pony show down by
mentioning that under Bush, "liberal" 501(c)s were singled out for
"investigation" by the IRS. Specifically; greenpeace, NAACP, and a
church in Pasadena because it gave an "anti-war sermon".
