I think I'm gonna have to pass on this trip. I doubt they'll be ready
to do this anytime soon, but I hope somebody goes there some day.

Easier to "launch" is what I wrote. No matter where it (or its parts)
were built, assembling the ship in orbit around the moon and then
launching the finished product from Moon orbit would be easier because
of the gravity well that Earth creates. The "large" finished product
won't have to climb ouut of the steep sides of Earth's well but only
out of the less steep part out where the Moon orbits.

Some rather simple tasks actually require an entire industry behind
them. The isolation of the Moon really does make things difficult. We
could ship parts to Earth orbit and assemble them into larger sections,
then ship the sections up to lunar orbit for final assembly and launch
from there to Mars. It wouldn't hurt to colonize the Moon as kind of a
way-station/mining operation/test colony.
