President Obama’s Hall of Blame

by Keith Koffler on March 23, 2012, 9:18 am

President Obama has passed the buck to others – mainly George W. Bush
– for no less than a dozen problems that characterize his presidency,
suggesting time and again that his own policies are not to blame for
his difficulties and he is simply doing the best that can be done with
the cards he was dealt.

Even so, Obama is aggressively staking a claim for successes for which
Bush shares significant or nearly all responsibility, including
increased drilling for oil and natural gas, the end of the Iraq War,
and the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

What follows is a roster of Obama’s efforts to assign blame for 12
problems that prevail or have faced him during his presidency. In
several cases, the quotes here are just one or two of many that show
Obama passing the buck on a particular issue.

Solyndra

“Obviously, we wish Solyndra hadn’t gone bankrupt. Part of the reason
they did was because the Chinese were subsidizing their solar industry
and flooding the market in ways that Solyndra couldn’t compete. But
understand, this was not our program per se. Congress–Democrats and
Republicans–put together a loan guarantee program.”

- March 22, 2012

Afghanistan

“When I came into office there has been drift in the Afghanistan
strategy, in part because we had spent a lot of time focusing on Iraq
instead. Over the last three years we have refocused attention on
getting Afghanistan right. Would my preference had been that we
started some of that earlier? Absolutely. But that’s not the cards
that were dealt. We’re now in a position where, given our starting
point, we’re making progress.”

- March 14, 2012

Iran

“When I took office, the efforts to apply pressure on Iran were in
tatters. Iran had gone from zero centrifuges spinning to thousands,
without facing broad pushback from the world. In the region, Iran was
ascendant.”

- March 4, 2012

The Economy

“We’ve made sure to do everything we can to dig ourselves out of this
incredible hole that I inherited.”

- February 23, 2012

The Deficit:

“We thought that it was entirely appropriate for our governments and
our agencies to try to root out waste, large and small, in a
systematic way. Obviously, this is even more important given the
deficits that we’ve inherited and that have grown as a consequence of
this recession.”

- November 9, 2011

“When I first walked through the door, the deficit stood at $1.3
trillion, with projected deficits of $8 trillion over the next decade.
If we had taken office during ordinary times, we would have started
bringing down these deficits immediately.”

- February 1, 2010

The Debt:

“Look, we do have a serious problem in terms of debt and deficit, and
much of it I inherited when I showed up.”

- August 8, 2011

“I inherited a big debt.”

- March 29, 2011

Unemployment:

“We inherited the worst recession since the Great Depression, a
banking system on the verge of meltdown. We had lost 4 million jobs
by the time I was sworn in and would then lose another 4 million in
the few months right after I was sworn in before our economic policies
had a chance to take root.”

- May 10, 2011

The BP Gulf Oil Spill

“In this instance, the oil industry’s cozy and sometimes corrupt
relationship with government regulators meant little or no regulation
at all. When Secretary Salazar took office, he found a Minerals and
Management Service that had been plagued by corruption for years –-
this was the agency charged with not only providing permits, but also
enforcing laws governing oil drilling.”

- May 27, 2010

Decline of the nuclear stockpile

“Among the many challenges our administration inherited was the slow
but steady decline in support for our nuclear stockpile and
infrastructure, and for our highly trained nuclear work force.” (This
one was offered up on Obama’s behalf by Vice President Biden).

- January 29, 2010

The Election of Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.)

“The same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into
office. People are angry, and they’re frustrated. Not just because of
what’s happened in the last year or two years, but what’s happened
over the last eight years.”

- January 20, 2010

Anti-Americanism

“I took office at a time when many around the world had come to view
America with skepticism and distrust. Part of this was due to
misperceptions and misinformation about my country. Part of this was
due to opposition to specific policies, and a belief that on certain
critical issues, America has acted unilaterally, without regard for
the interests of others. And this has fed an almost reflexive
anti-Americanism, which too often has served as an excuse for
collective inaction.”

- September 23, 2009

The Financial Crisis

“We inherited a financial crisis unlike any that we’ve seen in our
time. This crisis crippled private capital markets and forced us to
take steps in our financial system — and with our auto companies —
that we would not have otherwise even considered.”

All Odumbo can do is blame others for his miserable failures. The
incompetent moron can't do anything correctly. He is typical of the "I
am always the victim" mentality that pervades his kind. This is what we
get for having a street agitator in the White House. He is in the same
league as other race baiters such as Jessie Jackson and Al
not-so-Sharpton. Can't wait to vote this incompetent moron out of the
White House in November. A turnip has more brains than he does.

Actually not. He has said that the problems existed when he took
office. He is responsible for what he has done since then. He is not
responsible for what happened before he took office, and not really
responsible for things that happened before Congressional action that
was required before he could act.

Oboobuh threatened the big oil, healthcare, the pharmaceutical
industry and the auto industry while running for office. He said
energy costs "would nessesarily skyrocket and ALL markets responded
with layoffs. Obama is a Marxist and his record is clear. He's
anti-capitalist and BAD for business!

The President sets the tone! He's an eco-commie of the worst kind.
Everything he's done has backfired.

The only reason the stock market is doing well while consumer
confidence is low, housing is still off and no one is borrowing except
Tim Geithner from China...is because WE'RE anticipating another
shellacking come November. The economy is slowly gearing up for the
biggest party in world history, his booting!

Everyone knows his game with gas prices, everyone knows his game on
failed green technology, everyone knows his game with the southern
part of the Keystone Pipeline.

Oboobuh's game is up.

Tim Crowley is a very disturbed man. I don't know if he is who he claims
to be -- a black man living at a specific address in Seattle -- but if he
is, the fact that he uses his real name and address on Usenet (and
inviting strangers to visit him at home and fight him) suggests he is
mentally unstable.

Since Tim Crowley accuses the 99.9% of Usenet members who use pseudonyms
of being "cowards," the fact that he tells them to "hide" can reasonably
be construed as a threat. You are right to report him to police, but
they are not going to do anything about it. Your only option is to stay
anonymous, and take the necessary precautions in case Crowley learns your
identity and address.

The following biography of a 19th-century suffragist reveals the left's
true (but no longer spoken) attitude towards African-Americans:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances_Willard_%28suffragist%29

Frances Willard (suffragist)

"Frances Elizabeth Caroline Willard (September 28, 1839 – February 17,
1898) was an American educator, temperance reformer, and women's
suffragist. Her influence was instrumental in the passage of the
Eighteenth (Prohibition) and Nineteenth (Women Suffrage) Amendments to
the United States Constitution."

"In 1874, Willard participated in the creation of the Woman's Christian
Temperance Union (WCTU)..."

"In her later years, Willard became a committed socialist and called for
government ownership and control of all factories, railroads, and even
theaters."

"Frances Willard often came into conflict with progressive African-
American journalist and anti-lynching crusader Ida B. Wells. In their
push to expose the evils of alcohol, Willard and other temperance
reformers often depicted alcohol as a substance that incited black
criminality, and implicitly made the argument that this was a serious
problem requiring a serious cure. ..."

"Wells' ire at Willard had its genesis in a number of remarks Willard had
made to The Voice, a temperance newspaper in New York City: 'Alien
illiterates ... rule our cities today; the saloon is their palace, and
the toddy stick their sceptre. It is not fair that they should vote, nor
is it fair that a plantation Negro, who can neither read nor write, whose
ideas are bounded by the fence of his own field and the price of his own
mule, should be entrusted with the ballot ... The colored race multiplies
like the locusts of Egypt. The grog-shop is their center of power. The
safety of women, of childhood, of the home is menaced in a thousand
localities at this moment.'"

"Wells' accusations were part of larger African-American critique of the
temperance movement, which had always focused on post-Reconstruction
blacks as a special class, with the idea that black people, like
children, could not be expected to behave responsibly if left to their
own devices and were just problems waiting to happen, and therefore
needed to be protected from negative influences."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Blacks are children that must be protected from corrupting influences,
whether it be booze or libertarian propaganda. But consider the era when
Willard made her condescending remarks: right after the Civil War, during
the Reconstruction period, when white reformists were attempting to deal
with millions of former slaves.

A century later, the descendants of those former slaves were reclaimed by
the same Democrat Party who once enslaved their ancestors. The tone of
the rhetoric has softened over the years, but the theme remains the same:
that African-Americans are helpless and must be protected by whites like
mothers protect their children. Blacks are still enslaved by white
Democrats, but in a slightly different way: Rather than being
"encouraged" to perform manual labor in exchange for food and shelter
(and not being whipped), the new slaves are "encouraged" to vote Democrat
in exchange for their public housing and food stamp benefits. Progress!

Not relevant. No matter what the tone, he is not responsible for

Not hardly. He's not any kind of "commie".

Lie. The economy is coming around and the market is booming. Just because you're

But Tim Crowley is posting his threats from Washington, making his
threats the jurisdiction of the federal government.

Expect to see Obama's Department of Justice dedicate as many resources to
this case as it did to the intimidation of white voters by Black Panthers
in Philadelphia.

A quote is of no use when you don't understand English in the first
place.

Obama has made no such threat. You have never quoted such a threat.
It is your imagination.

>"nessesarily skyrocketing Energy prices"

That is not a threat. That is a prediction, and probably an accurate
one, and has nothing to do with any actions that Obama might or might
not take.

What threat?

He threatened nothing.

He expressed confidence in his position on the case, and explained
why. That "why" included the belief that the court would not violate
strong legal precedent on the commerce clause, a position taken by
Scalia's former law clerk, who judged one of the cases, and by
Reagan's former solicitor general.
