Secondly, NY23 is a solidly Repulican district. The mere fact that the
extremists righwinger is barely leading the Democrat is a serious problem
for the Republicans. It means their party is shrinking to the point
where it will become home only to the mentally unbalanced and emotionally
unstable.

In some years the Dems didn't bother to put up a candidate
The best year the Dems ever had got them 37% of the vote.
If they do better than that today it will mean that Limbo and the
other "purifiers" of the Republican party have succeeded with their
job of wrecking opposition to the Democrats.

Huh! Where are you voting? Bill Owens' win was welcome news. We
both grew up in NYstate, moved to NC 35 years ago; the old man grew up
in NY23 and knows every little town there. For many decades that area
was just as arrogant, dumb, rural, and Repub as any southern state
with a similar demographic. It's a delight to see that even they're
waking up to what one-party rule does to your district, state, and
nation. Who knows - we might want to go back to spend the summers if
they civilize themselves. ;^)

Sure. Even the worst rethuglican sympathizers aren't suicidal.
Even they can't ignore the fact that just over a border that's 5,525
miles long, there's a place where you didn't have to die of curable
illnesses, no matter how expensive they are. Of course a frightening
number of the faux-Canadians don't want to help their fellow Americans
to have that system - that's socialism.
Speaking of Canada, after decades of crossings, it is still weird
to go from frumpy, hard-bitten, hardscrabble way-far-Northern NY to
self-respecting, tidy, well-landscaped and quietly prosperous Ontario,
or the very elegant and graceful city of Quebec. Why, you'd think it
was a whole differnt world... even tho it's all of a piece with pretty
much the same soils and terrain on both sides of the border. But a
whole different concept of the worth of individuals and of personal
dignity. i.e., most Canadians have because their government considers
them worth taking care of; America's whitenecks (Yankee rednecks)
don't. For exactly the same reasons - Something about how not being
able to get medical care and scrambling for enough money to pay their
bills convinces them that their own society considers them worthless.

What's wrong with this picture. You got all the Dems you need to pass
whatever you want.
But, that
isn't good enough, what you all want is to pull in the other side to share
the blood that will be on the hands.
We aren't falling for it, it's yours, all yours. If these Dems get just
one dumb Republican they can say it is Bipartisan.
I hope the dumb Republican doesn't fall for it, this time. Let the Dems

Highly unlikely that Hoffman could eke out a win. Given that absentee
ballots included Scozzafava and that they would have been filled out
before she dropped from the race, one can expect that she would have
gotten support similar to the 20% that she was drawing at the time.
If that's the case, Hoffman would need 4 out of 5 of every remaining
ballot just to catch Owens.
