Small dairies go under as milk prices sink again
----

While the number of dairy cows in the U.S. hasn't changed much, the number of dairy farms has been dropping as small farms either go out of business or consolidate to become more competitive and cost effective [= more monopolistic].

The number of dairy farms nationally has dropped from nearly 92,000 in 2002 to less than 70,000 in 2007, according to the last agricultural census, which is being updated this year.

That's not the whole picture though. The number of small farms, with 100 to 199 cows, fell from about 11,000 to about 9,000 during that time, while those with more than 1,000 cows grew from about 1,300 to almost 1,600.

The loss of small farms hurts local economies and the many businesses that rely on them, such as feed and tractor dealers and veterinarians

Senator: Prostitution scandal wider than believed

In remarks prepared for the first congressional hearing on the matter Wednesday, [Senator Susan] Collins...challenged early assurances that the scandal in Colombia appeared to be an isolated incident.

She noted that two participants were Secret Service supervisors - one with 21 years of service and the other with 22 years - and both were married.

Their involvement "surely sends a message to the rank and file that this kind of activity is tolerated on the road," Collins said.

"This was not a one-time event," said Collins, the senior Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

"The circumstances unfortunately suggest an issue of culture."

Chris Mahlangu (29) was found guilty of murdering the controversial leader of the right-wing Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) on his property near Ventersdorp, a rural town in North West Province, in 2010.

NATO: Peacemakers or Peacebreakers?

Formed in 1949, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has acted as a worldwide [Superpower-led] security force consisting of 28...member countries.

Critics of the organization claim its noble sounding ideals of “establishing peace” and [its] constant “humanitarian intervention” during times of conflict are really euphemisms for a strategy of Western powered and financed imperialist expansion.

Organizations covering a wide ideological spectrum representing a myriad of issues protested the NATO Summit May 20 and 21, decrying

a behemoth military industrial complex

that has grown with NATO’s transformation into the world’s police.

“We want to bring an end to the war machine,” said John Beacham coordinator of the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition in Chicago.

NATO is being used to protect the same financial interests of many nations [then] involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade who used profits from slavery to [now] become members of the powerful global elite.

A swarm of activist groups came to protest, believing those global financial interests, and [the] determination of military targets to be related.

“NATO is a colonial operation. I think it’s very directly related and the U.S.

[The Superpower] is the most powerful colonial or neo-colonial country to ever exist,”

Mr. Beacham told The Final Call.

“The European powers of NATO really can’t do anything without the U.S. [The Superpower]. All the strings are being pulled here, all the decisions are being made here about

which country to attack next,

and whether it is possible.”

S.Africa's ANC says turning to China, India
----

Western investors have to realise South Africa does not need their money since it can turn increasingly to fellow BRICS members India and China to fund its economic development, the Secretary-General of its ruling ANC said on Tuesday.

"There is a dynamic that Western investors must wake up to," Gwede Mantashe, day-to-day head of the African National Congress, told Reuters in an interview.

"If they are still sulking regularly, there is a growing 'Look East' tendency that is emerging throughout the continent, the developing world."

"Sometimes, when you deal with the [The Superpower's] IMF or World Bank, or anything, they feel that you must stop thinking because they have money and they will tell you what to do with the money," Mantashe, a former union leader, said.

"As long as that is the case, you are going to see the fast growth of the 'Look East' policy," he said.

8 US-puppet cowardly troops killed, 9 hurt in Logar battle; 4 armored tanks annihilated

A Mujahideen official says that on Wednesday an intense fighting flared up as the combined American [Superpower] invaders and their puppets while on joint patrol came under Mujahideen surprise attack near the capital of Logar province.

The official further said that as many as 8 US invaders and their puppets were killed and 9 more got fatally wounded,...[and] 4 enemy’s armored tanks were destroyed when being shot with rocket-propelled grenades.

Five Mujahideen became martyrs and three more got wounded in the enemy’s airstrikes during the operation.
