With some apologies, you have an argumentative leg on which to stand.
However, here in news:alt.politics.immigration we do get a huge number
of people who have no refutation, and have no rhetorical ploy other than
screeching "racist, racist, awwwk racist" like some sort of demented
parrot.
There are indeed some people who just hate everything Mexican, and for
some that's just Mexican nationals, for some it's Mexican illegals, and
for doubtless some of them it's anyone with any Mexican ancestry even if
10 generations removed.
Some of us, though, which would certainly include Fred Elbel and myself,
don't care where the illegals come from, they need to be stopped at the
border and deported from within as they are encountered. Furthermore,
transnational criminal operations should be a target top priority for
Homeland Security, the "Mexican Methedrine Mafia" has probably killed a
lot more people than Al Qaeda and has assuredly ruined more lives in the
States.
Some of us are also rather concerned with out-of-control Legal
Immigration as well, mostly on the basis of reasonably-expected
consequences dealing with overpopulation, ecological destruction, urban

I don't see Ivan's hatred inspired so much by racial/ethnic issues as

"Cochise Guardian" is considered by many to the the poster-boy for
anyone wishing to discredit the Immigration Reform movement. That being
said, he gets a lot of leeway from a lot of folks simply because from
the day he got on UseNet, he's been very quick about picking holes in
the rationales of people apologizing for, or even promoting, a massive
invasion of about a million illegal aliens per year.
Since he's in California, mostly the illegals he sees are Mexicans, and
if even a tenth of the reports coming out of California are true, he
might be racist, but he'd be about as racist as, and for about the same
reasons, as Americans were all racists right after Pearl Harbor.
I'd personally prefer that he tone down the rhetoric but he's not here

Apparently you haven't given much thought to the situation. You
refer to the past as if it were a precedent for the current massive
immigration from Mexico. Actually, the movement -- and most
of it illegal -- of Mexicans northward is unprecedented, as the
Mexicans differ substantially from previous groups of
immigrants. Simply put, Mexicans tend not to assimilate.
Old style immigrants left the old country behind and
were proud to become Americans. Mexicans tend
to remain proud of being Mexicans. They tend not
to learn English. They tend to demand that we assimilate
to them. They cost Americans billions of dollars
every year in health, education, and welfare benefits,
beyond whatever they might pay in taxes. And oddly
enough, Mexicans tend to be contemptuous of
Americans, believing as they often do that much
of this country was, as they put it, "stolen" from
Mexico. So what we have from Mexican
immigration is a situation similar to the
situation of the Balkans -- nationalities
competing to occupy the same space
at the same time. None of this might
persuade you of the silliness of your
position, but consider the consequences
to this nation if I'm right in my assessments,
and you aren't. And if you want to see
"overrun," visit Los Angeles, Houston,
Dallas, or in about 10 to 20 years,
Oklahoma City.

Should pointing out to you that Mexican culture created and
perpetuates Mexico be considered racist? If I add that
Mexicans flee the place that their culture created and
perpetuates, that they bring their culture with them,
and that to the extent that they create an approximation
of Mexico here is the extent to which this country
will fail in the same way that Mexico has always failed,
I mean, would you consider those to be racist observations?
If you were informed that Mexicans have a disasterous
effect on our health and educational systems, would
that be racist too? If someone mentioned that Mexicans
lead statistically, out of all proportions to their percentage
of the population, in dropping out of high school, in
teenage pregnancy, in spousal abuse, in gang membership,
and in driving while drunk, would that be racist? Mexicans,
like everyone else, have an individual identity and a
collective identity. They are, obviously, Mexicans, and
share certain characteristics. The characteristics of
the Mexican collective identity seem to be ... well,
less than exemplary. What do you think?
