Definition of Pedophilia
Pedophilia (US) or paedophilia (UK) is the paraphilia of being
sexually attracted primarily or exclusively to prepubescent or
peripubescent children[1]. A person with this attraction is called a
pedophile or paedophile.
In contrast to the generally accepted medical definition, the term
pedophile is also used colloquially to denote significantly older
adults who are sexually attracted to adolescents below the local age
of consent,[2] as well as those who have sexually abused a child.
In contemporary law enforcement definitions, the term "pedophile" is
generally used to describe those accused or convicted of the sexual
abuse of a minor. Pedophilia is considered a taboo and is illegal in
most societies, cultures and religions; except in the Islamic world
with regards to Islam.

The Qur'an permits pedophilia. The following Qur'anic verse allows sex
with pre-pubescent girls who have not yet menstruated.
And (as for) those of your women who have despaired of menstruation,
if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and
of those too who have not had their courses; and (as for) the pregnant
women, their prescribed time is that they lay down their burden; and
whoever is careful of (his duty to) Allah He will make easy for him
his affair.

What is being discussed is the Iddat (العدة), which is a waiting
period a female must observe before she can remarry. According to this
verse, the stipulated waiting period for a divorced girl who has not
yet menstruated is three months.

Muhammad was a pedophile, even according to the most stringent
clinical definition of pedophilia - the DSM-IV-TR:
A. Over a period of at least six months, recurrent, intense sexually

or younger).
B. The person has acted on these sexual urges, or the sexual urges or

Muhammad was engaged to Aisha when she was only 6 year old and he was
51, and consummated the marriage while she was still pre-pubescent,
aged 9 years old. Thus he fulfilled all three requirements needed for

Umar was the 3rd caliph of Islam and married Umm Kulthum at a time

great morals. Go and tell your father that you are very pretty and you
are not what he said of you'. With that 'Ali married Umm Kulthum to
'Umar."

marriages are permitted by the majority of Muslim scholars and

A growing number of Muslims (primarily in the West) cannot bring
themselves to accept the narrations given by Aisha in which she states
that she was married to Muhammad when she was six years old and that
he consummated his marriage with her when she was nine years of age,
even though these are recorded in Bukhari's sahih ahadith collection.
These Muslims will usually resort to questioning the English
translation [7] of Dr. Mushin Khan, without addressing the ahadith in
their original Arabic. A reading of the relevant Bukhari ahadith make
it clear that Muhammad had sexual intercourse with Aisha when she was
nine years of age. The terms used are: "udkhilath" and "bana biha",
which can only mean "sexual intercourse" in the context of the
ahadith. The confusion from Muslims regarding this comes from their
lack of understanding regarding the English phrase "consummation of
marriage", their ignorance of Arabic and their unwillingness to admit
that their prophet had sexual intercourse with a nine year old child.
Instead of attacking the English phrase "consummation of the
marriage", it might better serve Muslim apologists to read the
relevant ahadith in the original Arabic before venturing a rebuttal.

There are many references to the permissibility of pedophilia, to be
found in authentic Islamic scripture.
Narrated Sahl bin Sad: While we were sitting in the company of the
Prophet a woman came to him and presented herself (for marriage) to
him. The Prophet looked at her, lowering his eyes and raising them,
but did not give a reply. One of his companions said, "Marry her to me
O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet asked (him), "Have you got anything?"
He said, "I have got nothing." The Prophet said, "Not even an iron
ring?" He Sad, "Not even an iron ring, but I will tear my garment into
two halves and give her one half and keep the other half." The
Prophet; said, "No. Do you know some of the Quran (by heart)?" He
said, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Go, I have agreed to marry her to you
with what you know of the Qur'an (as her Mahr)." 'And for those who
have no courses (i.e. they are still immature). (65.4) And the 'Iddat
for the girl before puberty is three months (in the above Verse).

peace be upon him) married her when she was seven years old, and he
was taken to his house as a bride when she was nine, and her dolls

on its victims and, among Muslims and non-Muslims alike, it is no
longer a secret that the Qur'an explicitly condones pedophilia. Of
course, for Muslims to finally acknowledge the harmful effects of
abuse on a child it becomes necessary for us to expose those effects
through authentic Islamic sources. That is why we find Aisha,
Muhammad's third and "favorite" wife, to be the perfect model for
assessing pedophilia and its consequences on the victims. The life of

A refutation of the e-book The Islamophobe's Glass House: Refuting the
Claim that Prophet Muhammad was a Pedophile by Ibn al-Hashimi. In his
introduction titled "The Glass House", the author reveals that the
first way he is going to prove Muhammad was not a pedophile is by
applying the logical fallacy of ad hominem tu quoque. His first claim
is that Jewish law permits a man to marry a girl as young as three
years of age, and Christian law permits a man to marry a girl as young
as seven years of age. He also brings up Mary, the mother of Jesus,
and Joseph. Relying on 2nd century AD non-canonical (not considered to
be Christian scripture) writings, the author attempts to parallel
Joseph's actions with those of Muhammad. Both claims are false, and
the author fails to prove that the label of "pedophile" is inaccurate
for a 54-year-old man who has sexual intercourse with a nine-year-old
girl.

A second look at the question; was Muhammad a pedophile? One of the
most disturbing things about Islam is that it does not categorically
condemn pedophilia. Indeed, it cannot, for to do so would draw
attention to the pedophilia of Muhammad, the founder of Islam.
Mormonism has the same problem with its founder, Joseph Smith. Many
Muslims cannot condemn pedophilia even if they would like to, for they
would have to abandon Islam. Muslims tacitly approve of pedophilia,
even if they are embarrassed to say so. So mesmerized are Muslims by
the example of Muhammad's pedophilia that they are unable to
categorically denounce pedophilia or feel shame. It is prevalent in
many Muslim countries disguised as child marriage. The UN is today
trying to stop the evil of child marriage among the backward Islamic
regions of Asia and Africa. The future of some 300 million young girls
depends on it.

Most Muslims are unaware that the Sahih ahadith say that Aisha, the
wife of Muhammad, was below the age of puberty when she was at least
fourteen years old. This is because they have never read the Sahih
ahadith in Arabic. The narrators of the Sahih ahadith were not ashamed
that Muhammad had married and had sexual relations with Aisha when she
was below the age of puberty. Hence, from the original Arabic, it is
clear that Aisha was below the age of puberty at the age of 14 (at the
time of the raid on the Bani Mustaliq) or 15 (at the time of the
Ethiopian slaves dancing incident).

Trouble is, you failed to tell the audience Islam was the first of the
Abrahamic faiths (Judaism,Christianity and Islam) to provide

age of consent, despite its canonical text being silent on the issue.
Christianity left it to secular law to develop child protection rules
and relies on its founder's statement that Christians must abide by
the rules of the society in which they live.
The first attempt to set a minimum age of consent in a Christian
dominated western society chose the age of 12, because that was the
most probable age of Mary when she became pregnant with Jesus. If she
had remained unmarried older than this in the society of the time she
would have been considered an "old maid". In Mary's society the only
protection the Talmud provided was for girls over the age of 3, and
even then stated that a man "acquired" a girl over 3 as a wife by
having sex with her. Sex with a girl under the age of 3 was deemed
"inconsequential".

Christianity as they do to Islam, we would expect them to write
articles condemning both Jews and Christians for allowing sex with
girls under the age of 3. After all, the last canonical text which
applies to these branches of the Abrahamic faith, written a millennium

Bakr had already arranged for Aisha to marry Djubayr Mutim.

lived with
her in Medina when she was nine or ten. She was the only virgin that
he
married. Her father, Abu Bakr, married her to him and the apostle gave
her

Christianity works by attempting to invoke internal compassion within

Apart from midde eastern syric and coptic christianity most modern
christianity is infact Germanic and incorporates Germanic mores. If

The small nuclear family of europeans, their small villages and the
egalitarian status of women (which only declined under christianity)
ensured that 'child abuse' was probably relatively rare.
In Europe polygamy was rare since women were economically dependant on
men for climatic reasons and men couldn't afford to feed more than
one, hence they were ironically more companionate and equal.
Note the life of a Viking Woman: (You may assume that European
pagans had similar mores before their conversion to christianity)
Girls were married between the ages of 12-16. The girls had no final
say in the marriage and they were then expected to run a household. A
wife could divorce their husband if their husband mistreated them or
their children, was lazy or not a good provider or insulted her
family. The process of divorce was quite simple and all the wife had
to do was call some witnesses and proclaim she was divorced from her
husband at the front door and at their bed.
The Viking woman had more rights than any other woman in Europe at the
time. Everything a woman brought into a Viking marriage was hers, and
did not become the property of her husband's estate. This included her
dowry, which usually included linen and wool, a spinning wheel, a loom
and a bed. This may vary, depending on the wealth of the bride's
family.
Husbands trusted their wives and allowed them to be responsible for
many important things. The woman of the house wore the keys to all the
buildings tied around her waist as a sign of her authority and
responsibility.
One thing noble about the Viking's way of life is the way that they
treated their women. In many cultures, women are not entitled to the
same rights and respect as Viking women were given. In most cultures
it would be the man's decision to divorce the wife, but in the
Viking's case this is different. Also, the wife was not regarded as
the possession of a man, but almost like an equal other. She was given
responsibilities and trust, and the right to divorce her husband if he
was not treating her respectfully. The only enforcement that remained
on Viking women was that they did not get a choice about whom they
married.

expectancy was 30 and one in 3 women died of complications of

I note your failure to properly capitalise the word "Islamic". Bit of

It is no surprise that cultures that preserve pre-Islamic tribal
traditions in addition to following Islam have Islamic clerics among
their population who promote their tribal traditions. Clerics are part
of the community after all.
Unlike Christianity, there is no power hierarchy in Islam. There is no
Islamic Pope with the authority to dictate policy, so each Islamic
community makes its own policy. This makes it easy for hate mongers to
pick and choose instances of poor policy to suit their agenda. If they
applied the same standard to Christianity they would report the

I do a little work in the area of child protection. If you want your
eyes opened regarding the prevalence of underage sex in western
cultures I suggest you attend a training seminar with Barnardos or one
of the other child protection agencies. Part of the training involves
dealing with sexual advances from pre-teens. It happens so frequently
it is included as part of the standard training programme.
If you need a concrete example, try this:

The issue here is not age of marriage, but age of sexual activity.
In many third world countries marriage is the only form of social
security for women and girls. A thousand years ago Islam wrote the
first protection against inappropriate sexual advances in Abrahamic
history into its canonical text. It was a revolution on the same scale
as Women's Lib in today's context. Judaism and Christianity never
offered protection of any kind to women and girls. Yet today hate-
spammers rail against Islam for daring to be the first to offer such
protection.
Seems to me people who do this are more interested in fomenting hate

Every text sets down limits. Contrary to your belief, the Koran
establishes better protection for women than its preceding texts in
the Abrahamic faith.

But you are one to point out aspects of the "anachronistic
fabrication" that can be used to foment hatred. You can't have it both
ways.
As a liberal my personal opinion is that people should be able to live
however they like as long as they don't interfere with the same rights
in others. I'm also interested in how other people live, and why.
Some choose to follow guidelines set down in writing thousands of
years ago. Some are pretty pedantic about it while most use the
guidelines in their modern context.
Hate-spammers simply highlight the bad behaviour of the pedants, or
try to link pre-existing tribal customs with the religion of the
target minority. This is an effective tactic if the audience is
relatively uninformed on the topic. It is easy to poison the stream in
this situation.

The propblem with this argument is that only Catholocism has a pope.
All of the other branches of christianity work as islam does and they
do not show a propensity to advocate violence and religious
intollerance to anywhere the degree islam does.
The other problem is that there is no place in the new testement that
advocates the following
1 Subjegation of christians and jews as Dhimis
2 Enslavement and even death of Kaffirs
3 Female witness 1/4th that of a male.

I get your point about offering protection, it was however minimal
protection at a such a low level that effectively allowed abuse meant

called crimen solicitationis (the crime of solicitation within the
confessional) and what it called the ‘‘worst crime’’ - the sexual
abuse of children. The document was issued in Latin. No authoritative
version was produced in English.
The document was circulated only to bishops and under terms of strict
secrecy.
A new version of the guidelines was produced in 1962, but this,
according to the Murphy Commission, was unknown within the Dublin
diocese until some time in the 1990s.
Desmond Connell, the former archbishop, told the commission he had
never seen the 1962 document, nor had he met anyone who had seen it.
John Dolan, the chancellor of the diocese and a monsignor, whose job
is to ensure that the administrative records of the diocese are kept
safe, said he didn’t know that ‘‘lurking in the very end, at the very
back [of the decree crimen solicitationis], was a little paragraph on
the ‘‘worst crime’’.
He was unaware of the 1962 document until an Australian bishop
discovered towards the end of the 1990s that it was still valid. Until
then, he did not know of any guidelines by the Vatican on the issue of
clerical child sexual abuse.
The Murphy Commission commented on how ‘‘unusual’’ it was, ‘‘whereby a
document setting out the procedure for dealing with clerical child
sexual abuse was in existence but virtually no one knew about it or
used it’’.
In 1996, victims of clerical abuse hounded the bishops into devising a
‘framework document’, setting out guidelines for dealing with
allegations of abuse. John Dolan said: ‘‘They [the authors of the
framework document] did not feel Rome was supporting them in dealing
with this issue ... they were meeting an onslaught of complaints, and
Rome was pulling any particular solid ground that they had from under
them’’.
The 1922 and 1962 Vatican instructions on dealing with allegations of
clerical child sex abuse demanded absolute secrecy in the conduct of
investigations. T he secrecy was so pervasive that, to some, it seemed
to demand that the complaint also be kept secret from the state
authorities.
Cannon 1341 states that the bishop is to ‘‘start a judicial
administrative procedure, for the imposition or the declaration of
penalties, only when he perceives that neither by fraternal correction
nor reproof, nor by any methods of pastoral care, can the scandal be
sufficiently repaired, justice restored, and the offender reformed’’.
The Murphy Commission notes: ‘‘This canon was interpreted to mean that
bishops are required to attempt to reform the abusers in the first
place." In Dublin, efforts were made to reform abusing priests by
sending them to therapeutic centres. But, according to the commission,
‘‘the archdiocese seems to have been reluctant to go beyond the reform
process, even when it was abundantly clear that the reform process had
failed’’.
But, more tellingly, the commission stated they ‘‘could find very
little evidence, particularly in the early decades of the commission’s
remit, of any attempt by church authorities to restore justice to the
victims’’.
I t says the question of harm to the victims never seemed to have been
considered by the archdiocese.
In considering whether a person is guilty of the ‘‘worst crime’’,
canon law states a person must have ‘‘deliberately’’ violated the
canon law. In considering the issue of guilt under canon law, the
Canon Law Society of Britain and Ireland has commented: ‘‘Among the
factors which may seriously diminish their imputability (guilt) in
such cases (cases of clerical child sexual abuse) is paedophilia ...
‘‘Those who have studied this matter in detail have concluded that
proven paedophiles are often subjected to urges and impulses which are
in effect beyond their control .. .because of the influence of
paedophilia (the abuser) may not be liable, by reason of at least
diminished immutability (guilt) to any canonical penalty or perhaps to
only a mild penalty, to a formal warning or reproof or to a penal
remedy."
The commission says it ‘‘finds it a matter of grave concern that,
under canon law, a serial child abuser might receive more favourable
treatment from the archdiocese or from Rome, by reason of the fact
that he was diagnosed as a paedophile’’.
What all this says is that the issue is not just a matter of
negligence or complicity in clerical child sexual abuse on the part of
individual bishops - it is the culture of the Catholic Church, a
culture shaped by the church authorities in Rome and transmitted and
refined in dioceses.
A culture that hides the Church’s own guidelines concerning what it
itself rhetorically said was the ‘‘worst crime’’; that caused the
Vatican authorities to pull the ground from priests who were trying to
draft guidelines on abuse; that prioritises the abusers over the
abused; that has been essentially indifferent to the harm caused to
abuse victims; that regards paedophiles as objects of sympathy and
compassion.
A few more episcopal resignations, with a presumption that these
settle the matter, is just a continuance of the culture of denial of
the Catholic Church’s institutional and cultural complicity in the
criminality of clerical child sexual abuse.
The Holy Roman and Apostolic Church is the problem.
