marriage is between a man and woman..but she added that it was up to

CARRIE PREJEAN, now the EX-Miss California, was Fired for
her INCOMPETENCE, *not* for her Bigotry. Thus, she's a
good EXAMPLE that Bigotry and Intelligence DON'T Mix.

Carrie Prejean is nothing but a LOSER. She was fired for her
INCOMPETENCE, after not showing up for scheduled post-pageant
events at which she was supposed to appear.

Thus, she is an excellent EXAMPLE that bigotry and intelligence
don't mix. Pageant judges in the future should make a point of
ALWAYS rejecting any contestants who displays bigotry -- on the
BASIS of those contestants' being DOLTS.

To the contrary. In just a FEW years, society will regard

segregationists, after THEIR hate-agenda wnet down the drain

There you go again with that bigotry lie. She is not a bigot. Defending
the fact that marriage is for a man and a woman is not bigotry. marriage
is a religious ceremony for a man and a woman end of story. Just because
you do not like their religious beliefs does not make them bigots. It
makes you a bigot.

Not agreeing with their philosophy is your right. Not liking it is your
right. Calling them bigots for not agreeing with yours is not right. It
is exactly what you are accusing them of.

Gays have the right to do as they please and should be afforded the same
legal rights as non gays. How ever they have no rights to marriage as
such since it is a religious ceremony and against the religious
doctrines. They do or should have the right to civil unions or to come
up with a religion that does not think homosexual activity is wrong.

Yes she was fired for her incompetence which has nothing to do with her
beliefs on marriage. That is why you can not get any recognition . You
call others bigots for absolutely no reason. You call her a bigot and
claim that is part of the reason she did not keep her responsibilities
up as miss California. You claim she is a bigot and there for
unintelligent. that is a very unintelligent statement as the two have
nothing to do with each other.

Millions of people are legally married and had no religious ceremony, so you
are quite full of it.

sure thing. but they are not homos. The ones that are married and homo
are married in states that went against peoples rights to practice their
religion . Marriage is a religious ceremony even if no ceremony happens .

If I don't reply to this Pat Magroyne post, the terroists win.

In much of western Europe, that's exactly what it is. The church wedding
is 100% for show. The actual "You're legally married" part would be what
would be, for Americans, getting your marriage license.

That's another thing: If marriage was purely a religious thing, you
wouldn't need explict government permission for it.

Until relatively recently, marriage has been governed by cultures
and religion, and not the state. Only governments which blur the
lines of state and church, or that function as a largely atheist
government restrict the definition of marriage to only those recognized
by the state.

Governments ought to stay out of marriage, just as they ought to
stay out of anything that relates to the personal livelihood and
actions of a people who are not violating the rights of another
human being. The main reason people like a government "licensed"
marriage today is the issues of estate and taxation. If the
government got their sticky fingers out of places it shouldn't be,
then the whole issue about same-sex "marriage" and the like would be a
non-issue. Issues of estate would be handled by contract, and without
income tax, there would be no reason or motivation for the government
to get involved in the marriages. At least, any reason they have
would be very little.

It is precisely because government has been encouraged and allowed to
overstep its proper and due authority that we have some of the very
political issues in the first place. Marriage as a private, binding
legal contract without undue intervention of the state beyond what
is required for the adjudication of complaints or violation of
contracts, places marriage where it should be, as an act and a
commitment between individuals, and I believe, God.

Then, we can argue endlessly over whether marriage ought to be
polygamous, monagamous, same-sex, or what have you, but it is
OUTSIDE THE DOMAIN OF THE STATE. Do we need "recognition" from the
state, as if our lives were only worth living if they were "validated"
somehow by some entity which is both dumb and not permitted to
establish a religion? Religion, atheism, and the like, ought not
to survive in the state, because the state, beyond the basic
acknowledgments of a power of law and of nature and of its Creator,
whereby any sense of right and wrong must derive to be effective,
must not be permitted to mingle or attempt to make any judgment
call of any kind regarding religion.

This also, incidentally, implies that Governments should not
run schools or be involved therein, because it is impossible to
avoid making judgment calls about religion inside an education,
whether by denying God, or by acknowledging Him.

I am speaking specifically of the U.S. when I say that the
government we have today, which has "oppressed" so many on the right
and the left, has done so only because we have permitted it to
make judgments about society. Socialism and liberty do not
belong together. Marriage and government do not belong together.
If such were the case, then people would have only themselves to
blame for their own problems, and the government would be in
no position to fix it: the responsibility for the good of society
would rest solely on the shoulders of the people who ought to
have it.

Quite the OPPOSITE of a lie. (The TRUTH affects you the way
bright sunlight, wooden stakes, and crosses would affect Dracula,
doesn't it?)

Openly and publicly ADVOCATING and seeking DISCRIMINATION
against any given affinity-group of people on the BASIS of their being
in that group, is an overt demonstration of **bigotry** on the part
of the person seeking to deny personal liberties to the group.

> She is not a bigot.

She made it CLEAR that she is -- and has repeatedly done so even
MORE overtly since. Thus, "white TRASH" would be a COMPLIMENT
to such a loser as she is.

*Lyingly* and delusionally WHINING...

> ...that marriage is for a man and a woman...

...is every bit as moronic and bigoted as it was 47 years ago when
the segregationists were seeking to EXCLUDE interracial couples from
marriage for NO good reason. It was MORONIC then, to be so bigoted
and exclusionary, and it's EQUALLY so now.

> ... marriage is a religious ceremony for a man and a woman.

SOMETIMES. And tens of MILLIONS of times over, it has NOT
been. So that is NO argument against same-sex marriage. (In
fact, no *intelligent or factual* argument even EXISTS for opposing
same-sex marriage.

Marriage is *always* via a state-sanctioned contract. Any supposed
"sanctity" that ever is accorded it is done so artificially and arbitrarily
by churches and clergy for people who choose to have their weddings
in that environment... and, thanks to the separation of church and
state, no church would ever be compelled to perform weddings for
same-sex couples. That would happen only if the church were to
choose to do so. (And some churches do.) And, of course, in the USA
alone, millions of opposite-sex couples' weddings were performed in such
secular situations as by justices-of-the-peace, mayors, judges, and ship
captains. No homophobes are claiming that those couples aren't 100%
married. Hypocrisy runs rampant among them.

<moronic lie flushed>

> Gays have the right to do as they please...

...INCLUDING getting married to their same-sex partners. As they
have been DOING for years, now, an many sensible places where it
is 100% legal. (See SIG for the RAPIDLY-growing list. Your hateful
ilk are LOSING -- BIG-time.)

> and should be afforded the same legal rights as non gays.

Yep. And before much longer, that will include the right to be
legally wedded in ALL 50 states. (THEN what will you find to
WHINE about? Or will you just wither and die on the vine for lack
of the apparent sustenance that being hateful toward people for
NO good reason accords you?)

Incorrect. As an example, people were getting married in Rome long
before Christianity got there. And in Athens, as well. And Egypt.
And elsewhere.

No, because the rights and responsibilities conferred by marriage are
legal rights and responsibilities. Marriage is a contract. A legal
contract.

You seem to want to give the churches power to oversee and enforce and
govern this civil institution. And when those marriages crumble.. you
would leave it to the church to ensure that things are distributed
equitably, and that the children are taken care of.

And of course you know how the Catholic church takes care of its young
'uns!

Anyway, just FYI, you're flowing in the opposite direction of the
tide. The tide ain't going back out for a LONG time.. and probably
never. Just so ya know.

The PROVEN Dishonesty of Bill Taylor
(As compiled by the poster going by "No One.")

"Leroyblue", aka "bibon," aka Bill Taylor is a bigot who posts regularly
on a variety of newsgroups, and is noted for his lack of manners, his
hatred, his dishonesty, and a characteristic redneck patois that
creeps in every so often. Of course, he denies his real identity (and
the large number of aliases he's used). Since "leroyblue" is simply
his latest identity, most of his real gems will appaer under his
"bibon" and former identities.

This guy is completely shameless. In a post with message ID:
<news:ustel318uigdheu19...@4ax.com>, he fal-
sified a citation - a reply to his statement showed how (see the post
with Message ID <news:87r6i0m...@nospam.pacbell.net> for
the details).

See Message-ID:
<news:n5tn72l8p74cfv8vc...@4ax.com> for a
post in which bibon accidentally identified himself as Bill Taylor and
Message ID <news:m3d5dvp...@nospam.pacbell.net> for
details about how he identified himself. Basically, he claimed that
"Bill Taylor" never received a phone call from some individual, some-
thing only "Bill Taylor" could know, with the phone number in ques-
tion belonging to "our" "Bill Taylor". Others, of course, have
reached the same conclusion.

The really interesting question is why he is so sensitive about "Bill
Taylor" so much more so than all his other numerous identities. :-)

Some of his rantings are just comical. For example, in Message ID:
<news:2iell25bqiqgv16ir...@4ax.com>, one of Bill
Taylor's aliases "bi...@ralent.org (with a '^' over the 'a') posted an
inadvertent admission that he is gay enough to hire a male prostitute
(whether or not he intended to say that).

However, he's shown his dishonesty time and time again. For one
example, in Message ID
<news:skmio2d2lukbv2gkt...@4ax.com>, Bill Taylor
(aka bibon) was caught forging headers, changing "LC" to "LA" and "LB"
in headers he cut and pasted to pretend that "LC" was posting under
multiple identities. You can cross check this claim by using Google
to search for the message IDs. LC's post with Message ID:
<news:embji...@enews1.newsguy.com> was attributed by Bill
Taylor to "LA" (but Taylor suppressed part of the message ID by
giving it as <news:embjhn02...@enews1.newsguy.com> to make
tracing it difficult).

He also doesn't learn even when called on his behavior. In Message
ID <news:016tu2d0ksk24dsuc...@4ax.com>, bibon
(aka Bill Taylor) pretends a phrase in quotes was written in
<news:87ps7kj...@nospam.pacbell.net> yet it does not appear
there (<news:87ps7kj...@nospam.pacbell.net> is the message
ID of the post that he was responding to, as is clear from the headers
for his post). In message ID:
<news:dp22v21m779nvfjdc...@4ax.com> he tried
to cover it up by claiming it wasa "mistake", even though the "mistake"
occurred in quoted text (lines starting with '>') that were automatically
inserted by his newsreader. His claim of a "mistake" is as believable
as "my dog ate my homework". Then in a post with message ID:
<news:s4d4v29mamrmrstji...@4ax.com>, he tried to
pretend that he had merely snipped a post incorrectly, even though
the text in question never was in the one he quoted.

Such behavior gives zero credibility to any statment Bill Taylor (aka
bibon, aka ...) makes. You really have to wonder about someone
whowould post such a lie when it is so easily checked: just go to
<news:http://groups.google.com/advanced_search?q=&> and copy
a message ID (do not include the '<' and '>') in the search string at
the bottom of the page, and click the "Lookup Message" button to
find an original post.

(1) Usually are NOT hypocrites. They leave that to
the hateful people who seek to deny equal rights

(2) Sometimes are atheists, just like almost all other
groups of people in society. But there is
NOTHING wrong with atheism.

(3) Often are bisexual. (And there's nothing wrong

Who said anything about Marriage being only a Christian thing? Sure,
there were governments that dealt with marriage, but in my readings
of the marriage laws and such that you state, I see nothing more than
a set of cultural considerations and basic laws surrounding what we
would consider contracts. Also, I believe in Rome, marriage was
for standing, citizenship, and mostly, for children. That seems to
take a pretty strong stance against same-sex marriage.

What I am saying is that cultures largely dictated what was expected
in a marriage, and only governments directly involved in the
morality and religion of a society would create additional laws
relating to marriage. In Rome, for example, I don't believe adultery
was a serious crime until what, a few years before Anno Domini?

But it is no more than a contract in the eyes of a proper Government.
The government need not make any judgment call regarding marriage,
and no additional laws ought be made regarding it outside of the
basic laws of contract that must exist for governments to function.
That is, marriage is nothing special to a government, and it should
stay out of any sort of special treatment of the thing, which ought
to be left for the people.

I didn't say that they wouldn't have the normal rights given to any
two people who enter into a contract, but they aren't given anything
more by the state, either. And if you are an atheist, well, that's all
there is to it. If you are a part of a Church, well, then, the
contract into which you enter will naturally also define the church
or witnesses as arbiters to some degree.

No, marriage most certainly is /not/ just a religious ceremony.
Marriage is the ongoing state of being married, and it is a legal
contract. You're thinking of the wedding, but even then, not all
weddings are religious ceremonies. While the wedding, which initiates
the marriage, is indeed often a religious ceremony, it need not be. The
marriage that endures after the wedding is not a religious relationship
at all; it is a civil state between two (or more) persons, usually given
state recognition and subject to some state regulation. The important
thing to keep in mind is, the /legal/ relationship between the married
persons is altered by virtue of being married.

> Just because
> you do not like their religious beliefs does not make them bigots. It
> makes you a bigot.

The /current/ laws on marriage in most American states define it as
being between a man and a woman. What you and others have not been able
to defend - at all, in my opinion - is your belief that marriage
necessarily /ought/ to be reserved to the relationship between a man and
a woman.

> Gays have the right to do as they please and should be afforded the same

That's a complete red herring; no one advocating that marriage between
queers be made legal has suggested that religions must perform the
marriage ceremonies.

> They do or should have the right to civil unions or to come
> up with a religion that does not think homosexual activity is wrong.

*All* marriages, to the extent they are recognized by the state, should
be called civil unions. In the context of laws providing for and
sanctioning these unions, there should be no distinction between a civil
union between two queers, and one between a man and a woman.

Marriage is a religious right. No ceremony does not make it any
different. It came about from religion .
Civil union is what you need . that bypasses the church and all their
morality stuff.
Exactly the same thing . It is just " marriage" by the court instead of
the church.
The church has been for thousands of years and will remain. fighting
religion is a lost cause. Go around it and ignore them.

I think you take peoples opinions of things a bit too far. One is
entitled to have different morals than you do. I do not think that makes
them a bigot . I think the term gets used a little too loosely . But
like I say " live and let live"
If you do not like same sex marriage then do not marry someone that is
the same sex. I do not however understand why people want to stop others
from doing it as I think it does not hurt any one.

"No [religious] ceremony" completely blows your claim apart.

The state should only give legal sanction and standing to civil union.

But did marriage not come about by religion ? It seems that religion is
what first came up with the whole idea .

No. It is a legal one.

No. It preceded religion.

Civil unions are not the equivalent of marriages.

All legal marriages in the U.S. can bypass the church. In order for a
marriage to be considered legal, the couple must obtain a marriage
license from the government.

> and all their
> morality stuff.

The churches can keep their "morality stuff" for their congregants and
they can all have fun with that.

Ministers in churches are given LEGAL authority to perform marriages.
As far as I'm concerned, these ministers should perhaps be disallowed
that legal courtesy, since clergy are utterly unnecessary in the
scheme of things.

Not quite as strong as it was before the Reformation, and since the
masses were taught how to read. And its power will continue to wither
in the West.

A marriage, in the eyes of the state, is nothing more than a civil union.

No, that's completely false. In no way does allowing queers to marry go
against anyone's right to practice his religion.

"Morals" are a very personal thing. Everyone has different morals.
Remember the "Moral Majority"? You want people telling you --
LEGISLATING -- what your morals should be?

Religion got its grubby little hands on something that already existed.

One talks about a person "having [or not having] morals", or "being [or
not being] moral", but no, morals are not a personal thing. Morals, or
moral values, are societally determined. For example, in a society in
which adultery is viewed as immoral by consensus, one cannot simply
declare for oneself that adultery is moral. You can suffer certain
societal sanction for committing adultery in such a society, regardless
of your personal view of the morality of the act.

> Remember the "Moral Majority"? You want people telling you --
> LEGISLATING -- what your morals should be?

You're an idiot. *You* also support legislating morality. Nearly
everyone supports it, in principle. The only argument is over which
aspects of morality are to be legislated. If you think legislation
specifying enhanced penalties for so-called "hate crimes" is proper,
then you support the legislation of morality. If you think laws against
armed robbery are appropriate and good for society, then you support the
legislation of morality.
