NTU Report: Other Republicans would increase spending by billions

According to a report released Tuesday by the National Taxpayers Union, Texas
Congressman Ron Paul is the only remaining presidential candidate who proposes
net spending cuts.

According to the report, Congressman Paul’s proposals would cut government
spending by over $150 billion, a conservative estimate of the spending
reductions Dr. Paul has proposed. The report concludes that the other
remaining Republican candidates, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee,
have proposed spending increases of $19.5 billion, $6.9 billion and $54
billion respectively.

“It should come as no surprise that when you crunch the numbers Ron Paul is
the only Republican who would actually shrink the size and cost of the federal
government,” said Ron Paul campaign economic advisor Don Luskin. “Romney,
McCain and Huckabee don’t hold a candle to Ron Paul – the only true fiscal
conservative running for President.”

In ten terms in Congress, Ron Paul has never voted for a tax increase or for
an unbalanced budget.

In our opinion, any patriotic American in his or her right mind should be
voting for Ron Paul!

It is politically Incorrect to shrink government. That is why Ron Paul
is being ignored and will not be nominated.

Dollars in the common treasury are like fish in the common sea -
anyone who can will harvest to extinction. That is why socialism is
fundamentally corrupting and can not work. ----

Perhaps some day enough people will understand that governing has
become about money and privilege - taking it from some and giving it
to themselves.

That little word "net" is important. The accounting for federal
budgets is
a bit more complicated than the average check book. The most
economically
sensible method of controlling the budget is to decrease the rate of
increase
below the rate of increase of revenues. It has the smallest negative
impact on
the economy and provides the long term basis for reducing the debt
while
maintaining receipts. Once the debt is paid off, then one can discuss
reducing
the revenues. "Pay go" attempted something like this. We need to get
back
to Pay Go. It is presumable that both Obama and Hillary would choose
to do
so in some sense. McCain might, although I'm a bit dubious. I doubt
Romney or Huckabee would. Conservatives only believe in tax cuts,
not
spending reductions. Paul would reduce both revenues AND
expenditures,
but it is hard to see how he could have the expenditures reductions he
proposes
without huge revenue losses of even larger magnitudes.
