Burlesconi isn't American, is he? Didn't think so.
He sure got wopped by that statue.
In a manner of speaking, he is part of a syndrome affecting
much of the world: wealthy criminals heading manipulated democracies,
with most of their deepest misdeeds largely unknown to the public
because the criminals also own or manipulate the media.
Has been much the shame - er, I mean much the SAME in American, in Italy,
in Britain, in Russia.
We have a brief respite, now in America, under Obama.
Probably only a respite, not a rescue.
I have a dear friend, a very cultured woman in her 80's,
a retired doctor, who returns home to Italy, every now and then,
and has related how the country was a "mess" because of the
political corruption.
My best wishes that Italy at least gets a respite.
