New York (AP) � Los Angeles' school system, the second
largest in the United States, is ordering iPads for all
its students, handing Apple a major success in its quest
to make the tablet computer a replacement for textbooks.
The Los Angeles Board of Education on Tuesday approved
the purchase of $30 million worth of iPads as the first
part of a multi-year commitment. It found that the iPad
was the least expensive option that met its
specifications.

..... "A million here, a million there, they keep spending them everywhere!". If the taxpayers have to pay for it then that's probably not a good idea unless it is a stimulus payment during a recession. Nor is the fact that the free trade and globalization result of too many made-in-Africa products being bought here will cause (a lot?) more unemployment here.
..... HOWEVER students should each have a computer that they or their parents paid for; they should learn how to use it properly.
..... Given that there are many jobs out there with nobody being fully qualified to fill them, maybe the schools are not teaching what is needed now?
